I've never read anything by Hilary Mantel, but from the description it sounds like one I would like.

We were talking about it at Book Club the other night as two of our members are reading it at the moment. They both said it was really difficult to get into and are having trouble plodding through it. And these are very bright intellectual women - they read Proust for fun! So I'm not sure how committed I am to reading it now! If anything, I think it might be a library read rather than a purchase.

I'm just starting The Girl at the Lion d'Or by Sebastian Faulks.

They did that a few months ago on Radio 4 as the book of the week, and I thought it was pretty good.  It's on my to read list.

The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas

Let us know what you think of it?

I FINALLY finished this book. I pretty much only read at night before I go to bed, so it takes me forever to finish a book, sorry! Anyways, I really liked this book! Some of it was totally over my head. I can see why in the middle you became disenfranchised with it. That's where she really digs into all the quantum physics and stuff. I think that's a bit much and unnecessary at times. But, I plowed through it because I found the idea of the 'troposphere' and her travels through it pretty interesting!

My MIL-ish gave me Bitter Chocolate to read. I've never heard of it, but she said it was very good.

Mmm, good information - thanks!

I really need to get into another book now that I'm home for longer than a week at at time...

I just started a girlie book/restaurant club here in London to meet up with friends and adding a bit of book and food culture to our lives.  the boozy lunches were doing us in... ;).

Our first book is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  So far its pretty good and is written as a series of letters back in the 1940's.  We went for a light hearted book for our first one.

We are combining this with a  restaurant too, so those that don't finish the book can still come along and enjoy the chat and food.

Our first restaurant is Mestizo Restaurant and Tequila Bar in London....being from California I miss my Mexican food and this is the most authentic food I can find.  I do love Crazy Homies, Wahaca and a few other too.

I've been on a short story kick, working my way through the four volumes of Ox-Tales (Earth, Wind, Fire and Water). And yesterday I read Dom Casmurro for my book club meeting tonight.

Just finished His Secret Little Wife and have waiting The Lie by Fredrica Wagman.  So far, I'm kind of meh.  I'm not a fan of authors writing paragraphs with no periods (full stops) until the end and only break up sentences using ellipses.  It just feels put on to me.  :-\\\\
