I'd like to hear how you get on with the Historian, Abby.

It's actually quite lovely, really! It's my second read thru it, I bought it at Oxfam to replace the one that my old roommate "borrowed" (ha ha ha:D) from me. It's one of the ones that just needs to be with me. :D

The Historian was one of those books that absolutely mesmerized me yet at the same time I found it disturbing. Sort of like Tolkien. The Lord of the Rings gave me nightmares but I couldn't put it down.

I agree on both counts! I have to work from 3pm-11pm tonight, and then 7am-3pm tomorrow so, I'll have to leave it off until tomorrow afternoon. It's aggravating me no end. I just finished some great passages, though, but, I don't want those images in my head when I'm working that late at night tonight!

I'm a couple chapters into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  It's a bit slow at the moment, but slightly intriguing.  I'm hoping it's going to pick up a bit.  I imagine it's going to be good since they made a movie out of it =p

I may be the only person in the world to feel this way, but I positively loathed it.  :-\\\\

Nope, I wasn't all that impressed either. Currently reading the newest Jasper Fforde, just finished "We Need to Talk about Kevin" which is one of those books that is very, very good and yet almost impossible to recommend to people.

I'm interested to know how you get on with it. It'll be a third opinion. It's only the covers and titles(of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) that have intrigued me, but, so far, I just can't bring myself to pick either one up.

Yeah, We Need to Talk about Kevin was a great book. Very disturbing, but brings up so many good questions about human nature. I also liked her novel The Post-Birthday World, which deals more with romantic relationships and choices. I've been meaning to check out some other Lionel Shriver books, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I thought the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was really slow to start, but once it hit it's stride, I really enjoyed it.  The second novel was better, I think.  And I haven't started the third yet.

I've heard good things about Fforde, I need to get on that, but I don't know where to start with his novels.

I just finished a craptastic Koontz book, cause it was cheap on the Kindle.  I don't know why I should be surprised, the last few novels I've read by him were exactly the same.  It's my own fault.
