I'm reading The Encyclopedia of Earth that the Book People dropped off for sale whilst sitting at my desk. Yeah... I don't have much to do today.  ::)

Picked up The Zahir by Paulo Coelho at the library yesterday, just in case I'm able to read on the train (I get severe motion sickness when I try to read in the car, I've not tried on a train before). Our library didn't have ANY science fiction books. And they don't have any classic literature, either. It's kind of depressing. But hopefully this will be a good read.

I get bad motion sickness if I try to read anything in the car too.  I even feel queasy if I look at the map too long.  For some reason I have no problems reading on a train at all.  :) I generally read the whole journey!

I'm the same way. In fact, I look forward to those occasions when I have a good 8-9 hour train ride because I know I can get some serious uninterrupted reading in!

I was able to read. Yay! I finished the book last night. I still can't decide whether I liked it or not. It was very philosophical and gave me some things to think about, but there could've been more story and less pretentious rambling, I think. Hmmm.  :-\\\\

I am the same way in a car, but trains are no problem.  I even have to be careful on planes, although big jets are usually okay.

I just had a library trip, and I am finishing the book for our book club (The Winter Queen-Boris Akunin).  I am not sure which of the new books I will start.  I think I am going to go for Dr Bloodmoney by Philip K. Dick.

I really like that Akunin series, but I'm never sure that detective stories make for good book group discussions. What do you think?

This is the first detective book we've done, but we have done thrillers before (Ghost by Robert Harris for instance). We've had a pretty broad range of books.  I think that we do the book club more to get together more than anything.  That's not to say we haven't had great discussions.  Our last one was quite a long and interesting discussion as it was a book on post apartheid SA, and we had a South African join the discussion.

This one we're doing because it was Mr A's turn to make the suggestion and he wanted to do this or The Woman in White. He's been going to the club for over two years, and this is the first time he's gotten a suggestion in.  While I would have loved to do The Woman in White, the size might have put off potential newcomers.  We did Middlesex, but attendance was low at that one.

I'm reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson, and really enjoying it.  For some reason I hadn't read any new books in ages, but now am suddenly keen again.  I just finished Shades of Grey, and I think next up will be Elizabeth Kostova's latest.

I just finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand yesterday and thought it was just OK so I would be interested in your final opinion. :)

Now I'm reading Brodeck's Report by Philippe Claudel which is fantastic.

I've been in bed with the flu for the past couple of days, so I've done a good lot of reading. I finished Let the Great World Spin and then read Kate Atkinson's Case Histories and Sue Miller's The Senator's Wife. Now I'm well into Caro Fraser's A Little Learning.

I can't really read in the car, either. I try on planes and trains, but, usually, I just fall asleep on either one. And riding in cars, if I'm not careful and get too bored.

I'm reading The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. Such a sweet, inspiring book. Good departure from The Historian, which was great, as always, but, also scary and dark in bits. May have to get The Five People You Meet in Heaven and Tuesdays with Morrie to join our bookshelves! :D
