Finished Eva Green which was ok. Just getting into Saints & Liars and I can't decide what I think of it yet. It seems a bit disjointed.

If you mean Liars and saints..  yes I read it for a  reading group  a while ago.. you have to keep in mind that the author is  originally a newpaper  writer  so  that is the style.. I found it didn't  have  as  much detail  and feeling as I  could have  wanted  but again  it made sense  since  it would be written more factually.  it comes together at the end  though.. and I DID finish it  so  hopefully you will too!   :P

Yeah, Liars and Saints. I eventually got into it and enjoyed it.

I've started Astonishing Splashes of Colour. Can't really say much about it yet - anyone else read it?

Has anyone read Molly Watson's In the Pink?  It looks cute; I'm tempted.

EustaceTilley, Anne, anyone else? I read it and was sort of disappointed. There were some amusing passages a about the sisters adapting to country life, but overall I found myself just hating the two of them! It was hard for me to get involved in their story when I disliked them so much.

Initially, I thought I might not like the book because of the hunting aspect. However, there was only one description of a kill and it wasn't graphic at all. In fact, there was very little mention of foxes throughout the book. The girls seemed to focus solely on the horses, the riding, the jumping, the socialising, the parties, the camaraderie, etc. -- which leads me to believe that there really is no need for fox-hunting at all. I knew I was right all along! ;)

Anyway, in spite of my feelings about Molly Watson and her annoying little sister, it was in parts an interesting read. If anyone wants my copy, just holler!

Just BARELY started "Human Croquet" by Kate Atkinson.  Not far enough into it to have an opinion yet.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I'm just about to finish Three Men in a Boat -- which I think I'm going to have to add to the "Eye-Opening Books About the British" thread. It's so funny! I've loved it!

Next, I have to start on The Kite Runner, which I need to finish in time for Tuesday night's Book Club meeting.

As I just joined, the following are what I read so far this summer:

Secret Life of Bees -  good book, but I wasn't mourning the end of it.  It had great characters, but I was able to move on after.

Time Traveler's Wife - Excellent!  Read it twice!  Finished it and then started from page one again.

September - great book - great character development.  Rosamunde Pilcher was recommended to me by a friend in the States.  Went on to read her Winter Solstice right after - liked it too.

Just this week I finished The Notebook - gift from my husband...then I rented the movie and cried like a baby!

Another two I finished this week:  Choice Theory & Getting Together and Staying Together: Solving the Mystery of Marriage both by Glasser.  Brilliant!  Going on to read his Reality Therapy but might take a *fiction* break.

Have made a few notes from this thread for my next book choice....
Never criticize a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes....that way you are a mile a way - and you have his shoes....

I've just started Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

It sounded really interesting- I've only started reading it last night. Has anyone read it?

Hmmm, I think that is the book my mom just finished and loved.  Must ask her.
Any idea if it's anything like the Alienist?  I'm always after books like that.

Just finished "The Virgin Suicides" . . . . good book but it's one of those reads that, I think, would be enhanced by a reading group. I got a strong feeling that the story was a metaphor . . . for the deline of the US in the 70's? Anyone else who's read it have insights?

I spent a few hours on the beach today reading "The Kite Runner," and I was bawling my eyes out! In public! I never do that!! This book is so moving -- and I'm only about 2/3 of the way through.

What am I reading?  NOTHING! >:(  Work has killed reading for me; I have no time or energy left.  This really sucks. :(
I was born in the Summer and at Night...my mother named me AUTUMN DAWN.  True story.

Jamie's...beyond the stars and past eternity.

EMAIL or PM me for information about gigs or about booking me (solo gig) or the band.

I loved Alienist too! Have you read any of Caleb Carr's other books? Angel of Darkness wasn't quite as good but worth reading nonetheless. He has a new one out at the moment called The Italian Secretary which is about the further adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I m ight give it a miss. I'm about a chapter into Historian at the moment and it's a bit slow going so I probably won't have it done by the time we leave for NY. Want to borrow it after I'm done, though?

I just read the new book in Alexander McCall Smith's Isabel Dalhousie Edinburgh series! Has anyone read Sunday Philosopher's Club? They are a bit of an aquired taste like his Number One Ladies Detective Agency ones (which I really love)- but really worth trying! The new one is called Friends, Lovers, Chocolate- it's out in a few weeks and going right into a paperback format so I'm hoping people will pick it up more.

I seem to be drawn to crime books - I adore Anne Perry's Charlotte & Thomas Pitt series and there is a new one out in Sept! (Long Spoon Lane) and also have recently read her new WW1 series. Really good stuff.

I think someone mentioned Kathy Reich's new one- Cross Bones- was anyone else really disappointed with it?

Hopeing to get my hands on an advance of Patricia Cornwell's new one but she hasn't titled it yet, apparently. I always read them even though I've been disappointed with the last 3 or 4.
