Just finished "Eat Pray Love" (again--thanks abbygirl!).  Liked it a lot.  There was a lot I could relate to--faint echoes of my own post-divorce experiences.  Looking forward to seeing the film now!

Now I'm going to start "Agnes Gray"  I hope it's not boring.  I have a love-hate relationship with the Bronte sisters.  I loved "Jane Eyre" and "Villette", really like "Wuthering Heights" and sort of liked "The Professor", but hated "Tenant of Wildfell Hall".

:) You're welcome, Andee! I want to know how Agnes Gray goes for you. I love Jane Eyre, and I love Wuthering Heights, but, didn't like Villette very much. I just couldn't...feel anything. Jane Eyre made me excited and stuff, like when she met Rochester and stuff like that.

I'm almost finished with The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova which I'm LOVING,

What did you think of the ending?

I'm reading The Day of the Jack Russell; Spooks, Crooks & a Puppy Dog's Tale by Bateman.  It's the follow-up to Mystery Man, which I picked up on a whim at the supermarket last year, and loved.  So far, so good.

I didn't think the ending was as good as the ending of 'The Historian', but I really enjoyed the book. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm reading 'Julie/Julia' and it's just eh. After all the hype, I'm actually a little disappointed by it.

I loved Jane Eyre, and remember liking Agnes Grey (though I don't remember why, guess I should reread it!). I've tried Wuthering Heights a few times and haven't gotten into it, so I think I should just stick with Charlotte/Anne.

On a much less literary note, I'm reading a romance called Me and Mr Darcy, which seems to involve the American heroine going on a vacation tour in England and running into a time-traveling Mr Darcy from 1833? I don't know, I love Pride & Prejudice, but this character bears no resemblance to Austen's Darcy, and I'm totally not buying the time travel thing (which some authors pull off so well...just read some Connie Willis, who does it beautifully/realistically).

Thankfully more books have come in for me at the library, so I'll probably swap out tomorrow and give up on this drivel. ;)

I know what you mean about Villette, but what I liked about wasn't sweeping romance (there wasn't any, really!) but more for how I really felt I was in that city and could feel the weather, the seasons, see the architecture, etc.  I sort of could see the seeds of Villette in The Professor which she wrote first.  Villette was more a meaty version of The Professor.  But *nothing* compares to Jane Eyre, which is why it is the most popular Bronte novel after all these years, I guess.

I found Wuthering Heights difficult because the characters were so toxic and not nice people.  But I did like the gothic-ness of it and I did want to finish it to see what happened.

Have you seen the BBC mini-series about a modern day young woman who time travels back to the fictional world of Pride and Prejudice and falls in love with Mr. Darcy?  Elizabeth ends up time traveling to modern-day England.  It was quite entertaining if not entirely believable.  I hear they are going to make a film version of it!

Haven't seen it, but it sounds fun. (My tolerance for mildly "enh" and/or uncredible stuff is much higher for tv/film than books...probably because I expect more from authors.)

I did read a fun book about Austen and time travel called By A Lady, so I know it can be done.

Oh! I *loved* Mystery Man! I was giggling at least twice a page.
Right now I'm re-reading some David Eddings, and I just finished "The Weed the Strings the Hangman's Bag" another stellar edition to the Flavia de Luce series.

I saw that! I wanted to like it, but it just didn't work for me.  :-\\\\

I'm starting Jane Eyre. DH's book was just too much for me. Too intense, too confusing at times, not relaxing at all.

Interesting aside/coincidence, though-we just watched Control(bio pic of Joy Division's Ian Curtis), and Crash was on Ian Curtis's bookshelf. Just not for me, though.

Aww, I love David Eddings! He was my first epic fantasy.

Have any of you seen/heard the musical Jane Eyre?  It's supposed to be good but I haven't gotten around to investigating it.

Hmmm.  Hard to imagine a musical of it, but I'm somewhat intrigued!

I guess I am opposite of most of you. I LOVE Wuthering Heights, but couldn't really get into Jane Eyre.  :-\\\\ I may give it another go, though.

I just started The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo since sheateawholepie brought it over for me last week when she stopped by. No opinion on it yet... I'm only like 5 pages in!

I really liked The Devil's Punchbowl by Greg Iles, by the way. Many best-selling thrillers don't seem to be very well-written, but I thought this one was much better than the average fare. If any of you are into that kind of thing (Karen Rose, James Patterson, Martina Cole, Dan Brown, etc...) I think you'd really like it (I think Greg Iles is a better writer than any of those I just mentioned). I'm not even really into thrillers, just get them off MIL so I read them here and there, and I really enjoyed it.

Don't get me wrong--I did like it, but it was difficult--I guess I'm used to more likeable heroines / heroes.  I loved the darkness of it---the spookiness especially in the beginning part.
