I could never get through 'Wind in the Willows' as a child or an adult, although I liked other authors from that period, especially E.Nesbit.

On that subject, I really enjoyed 'The Childrens Book' by A S Byatt, which is a fictional account of a children's writer in the pre-World War 1 period.

I loved E.Nesbit as a child, but I didn't get on that well with her as an adult. Her books all felt a bit preachy and didactic.

I recently read The Children's Book too and I semi-enjoyed it! I thought it was far too ambitious and, especially in the second half, she got caught up in the history and ignored her characters too much. But it was well written.

She's one of my favourite authors. :) A couple of her books have fallen flat with me (Dragonhaven, mostly), but her others are just so good. :) (Especially if you're a fan of horses and/or dogs.)

I've been adding tons of books to my to-read list from here...now I just need time to read them!

Her latest, Pegasus, is lovely. It is one book that grew into two, (second time it happened to me this year. The first was another fantastic book by the amazing Connie Willis.) McKinley is a buy as soon as published sort of author for me, and I really enjoyed Pegasus, but the wait for the 2nd half of the story will feel like forever! (equestrianerd, I am not a huge Dragonhaven person either, but this was more like her other stuff).

Currently reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.  I'd never actually read any Sherlock Holmes stuff, which I thought was silly.  I'm loving it!

I love the Sherlock Holmes stuff.  Someone has turned a few of the stories into graphic novels (leaving in all the content) and I got my dad one of those books for Christmas.  I'm glad you are enjoying it!  :)

Here's a fascinating article on what fiction might be in the present day by Murakami--a great author.

Finished Fall of Giants by Ken Follett.  Even though the book is over 800 pages, it's a fast read and an easy way to learn about World War 1.  Have started C.J. Sansom's Dark Fire.

I found the website bookgeeks from the Reading Room discussions, and found that they were/are looking for book reviewers!  If you've written any book reviews, they might be worth a look.  I get to pick out new books, they have the publisher send them to me, and I read 'em and review 'em!  And keep them!  Pretty sweet deal.  I've done a few already, and I'm currently reading "Born Wild" by Tony Fitzjohn, his biography about living in Africa and working with George Adamson (of Born Free) and his lions.  I'm dying to go to Africa now!

Heads up for anyone on the fiance visa, or anything else that doesn't allow paid or unpaid work: I don't know how fussy the BA might be about it being unpaid work, or if getting to keep the books might constitute a form of payment, so I guess just be wary.

I'm on a D.E. Stevenson jag. I've just read Spring Magic and The Four Graces and am now on Mrs. Tim's Regiment.

The title would make me want to read it.

I just finished Eat, Pray, Love - I enjoyed it and now I want to read the follow up book!

I had to take a break from Matthew Shardlake and Jack Barak so I've started Sister by Rosamund Lupton.  I cannot put it down.
