Just finishing up The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  I picked up a different book to bring over to the inlaws yesterday, and in the first chapter it seemed like it was sort of like that film "Angel Heart".  I was like "this guy totally ripped that film off I think."  It turns out that it was the book the film was based on.  I don't know if I am going to bother with it since I know the twists, but since it has a different setting, I may.

Reading Lolita i Tehran is excellent.  You might enjoy Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women by Geraldine Brooks.  She's a wonderful writer.

I got a few light mysteries to read over the holidays but I've not gotten in as much reading as I thought I would.  Right now I'm reading Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny.  I've read another by her that was really fun, A Brutal Telling, and thought I'd enjoy some of her others.  They are just easy, fun little mysteries set in Quebec in a little village that I would love to live in, if it wasn't fictional and there weren't always people getting knocked off!  ;D

I got LOADS of books for Christmas, making me one very happy lady.  I decided to start with Up and Down Stairs: The History of the Country House Servant by Jeremy Musson.  So far I am loving it!

That sounds really good! If you like that sort of thing, are you watching Upstairs Downstairs? And there's also Maid in Britain on BBC4 tonight!

There's loads of good books that some of those shows are based on.  I read a few when I was doing a module on the Country House for my MA.  It's interesting to see the dynamics between the servants themselves and their relationship with the family, but also their relationship with the communities near the big houses.  Their job stuff is interesting, but I think the interactions are extremely interesting.

I've been recording Upstairs Downstairs and I watched the first one last night. It was great!  I was not aware of Maid in Britain though, so may have to hop onto iPlayer this afternoon.  Thanks!  :)

Just finished Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen.  Really delightful, funny little book.

What did you think of "Perks..."? I tried to get into it, but felt nothing for
the character and it's gone off to the charity shop.
