Finished The Likeness by Tana French... it was so amazing. I think I may start Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse next.

I've done a bit of train travel over the past few days, so got lots of reading in! I read Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson, The Winds of Heaven by Monica Dickens and Henrietta Sees It Through by Joyce Dennis. Now I'm reading Tamara Drewe by the wonderful Posy Simmonds.

What did you think of the Kate Atkinson?  It's not normally the sort of thing I read, but DH got talked into buying it, so I thought I might give it a try.

I'm a big fan of her detective books and have all four of them. If it's not your sort of thing, you might not like them, but I think they're great! Much better-written than the usual ones in that genre.

That's good to know!  I actually really like detective books, but I'm wary of the mass-market paperback varieties.  I will read that one next.  Right now I'm in the middle of Possession by AS Byatt.

I agree with Chary.  I've read Atkinson's detective books - she has quite the imagination.  I'll bet she gave her parents and teachers a run for their money.  She's just plain fun to read; there's lots of twists and turns.  Hopefully there will be a sequel to Started Early, Took My Dog.

Have you read the first three, Woodlily? They've been quite successful, so I'm fairly sure we'll see further adventures of Jackson Brodie. I hear the series is going to be on television too - with Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy!) in the lead. I often have issues with the casting of films and television of books I like, but this time I think they've got it right!

Guys, stop talking about more detective books, my list is already too long and I'm addicted!  ;)  :P  :)

Someone else just recommended the Jackson Brodie series to me, so I've put that on my Green Metropolis wishlist and will order them once I finish this other stack I ordered.  :)

I've read all of the Jackson Brodie books - loved each one.  If anyone is going to start reading them, it's best to start with the first Jackson Brodie book.  The title escapes me.

I am so glad to hear there's going to be a series on TV.

I'm going to recommend the Millennium series by Stieg Larsson.  I know that the title The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo may not sound very appealing.  It didn't appeal to me, but a good friend suggested the book, and I'm glad he did.  These books are well written and they are page turners.  Larsson's social message concerns women who are physically and mentally abused by men.

I just read Maigret and the Ghost by Georges Simenon. :P
I've not read any of the Maigret stories before but I thought it was pretty good. I might have just been enjoying that it was in Paris, though...

I also read Submarine recently - the book the new film is based on. It was good, but my main problem was that the protagonist is a 15-year-old boy but way too mature and intelligent to be believable. I saw the film last night and really enjoyed it, but same feeling about the main character not being anywhere close to his age.

Currently reading some Nick Hornby. My reading list is dictated by what's being pulped from the company's warehouse since I get access to those books for free. Either there were too many Hornbys in the warehouse or they're being re-issued with different jackets - whatever the reason, I have a nice little collection to get through now.  :)

Which one are you reading?  I loved High Fidelity but couldn't get as excited about others of his.

Liking it so far.  I'm not quite halfway through.  I'm going slowly because I don't have much time for reading during the week, and it requires concentration.  But so far so good!

I'm reading High Fidelity right now and really enjoy it. I have a few more waiting for me at work (About a Boy, Slam, Juliet Naked, maybe a few more) and am hoping they're good. Which of his others did you read?
