I'm reading High Fidelity right now and really enjoy it. I have a few more waiting for me at work (About a Boy, Slam, Juliet Naked, maybe a few more) and am hoping they're good. Which of his others did you read?

I'm not Mrs. Busby, but I loved About a Boy and High Fidelity! I haven't read Slam and I was a bit disappointed with Juliet Naked.

I agree about Juliet Naked, I couldn't get into it. I would pick it up every now and again but eventually I stopped reading at about chapter 4.

Agreed about Juliet Naked. It is fairly predictable.

On to The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest

I didn't read About a Boy but I saw the movie and enjoyed it (I know...take the shame)  I wasn't interested by Juliet Naked, A Long Way Down, or How to Be Good.  I'm not saying they were bad but I did my preliminary read (I always do this - a bunch from the beginning and a little from the middle) and they just didn't intrigue me. I would be interested to know what you think of them and whether I've missed out on something good?  :)

The Long Song by Andrea Levy. Halfway through and I'm still undecided.

Much to my regret I finished reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest by Stieg Larsson.

Next up is Inside of A Dog by Alexandra Horowitz.

Goodness, sounds like most people weren't into Juliet, Naked. I'm almost done with High Fidelity, which I have enjoyed so far, and will keep you all updated on my Hornby progress. I have Slam, About A Boy, Juliet Naked and A Long Way Down waiting for me at work right now.

Just started Britons: Forging the Nation 1707-1837 by Linda Colley.  I have read sections of it before, for my dissertation, but now I have a chance to actually read the whole thing!  :)

Inside of A Dog was more scientific information than I wanted.  The author is very interesting and has a good sense of humor, but I finally put the book aside without finishing it.

Have started reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery.  So far, so good.

Have started reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery.  So far, so good.

I've been reading that in French, sort of intermittently with other books because it requires a lot of concentration.  The little girl is easy to read but the old woman uses a lot of vocabulary that I don't know.  I'd love to hear what you think of the translation.

Just read Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man by Bill Clegg in one sitting. WOW. Couldn't put it down! It's the true story about a successful publishing executive (the author) who goes on a 2 month crack binge. It was so intense and completely riveting. Very honest and moving. Highly recommend it, if you don't mind the dark and seedy stuff.

This Body of Death by Elizabeth George. It's 736 pages and I wish it were longer!
