I recently purchased two books by Tucker Max. I normally read before bed, but his books make me laugh so hard I cannot sleep immediately after reading. One is entitled "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" and the other one is "As**oles Finish First." I would not suggest reading them if you are easily offended but he does seem to make fun of any and everyone. They are autobiographical and if you need a good laugh/positive lift I highly suggest that you read them. Just keep in mind that he holds nothing back!
Love,

MikeyMike

The Little Friend by Donna Tartt. Amazing so far.

Finished this, really loved it. Trying to decide what to read next! Some possibilities include: The Hunger Games (given to me by some expat friends who are desperate for me to read them), The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, The Labyrinth by Kate Mosse or Anna Karenina. Hmmm.

Just finished Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. It was alright. It wasn't earth-shatteringly amazing to me but it was entertaining. I'll probably read the other 2 in the series.

Now I'm reading Making Money by Terry Pratchett, which my mom lent me when I was back in the US because I was running out of books to read. Can't wait for Christmas so I can get in some new stock!  :)

Anna Karenina is one of my very favourite books (to the point that I own three copies: a paperback (that I read all the time), a beloved copy I wrote all over in Uni, and a gorgeous hardback that I just like looking at). It's astonishing.

I read "The Hunger Games" and thought it was okay; it certainly was a quick read.  And anything by Barbara Kingsolver is bound to be good.

I'm currently reading the Dickens bio. Good so far, quite a chatty tone, but that may calm down a bit I think (I'm only about 20 pages in).

Thanks for the input! I was saving AK for winter as I thought it would be a nice read for a snowy day, but we haven't had much cold weather yet. Still, I may start that next since it comes so highly recommended. :)

I've also read The Hunger Games but I couldn't get into it for some reason.  However, ANY of Kare Mosse's books are brilliant :)

I think I am going to find an Irene Nemvrovsky book I've not read yet!

I'm really enjoying it! It's one of DH's favorite books, so he recommended it to me.

I just read the Hunger Games trillogy and I loved them. I read them in about two days and barely came up for air.

The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides  I'm reading it for a book club and it's received not so great reviews, so I'm not really looking forward to starting it.  :-\\\\

I'm knee-deep in Jonathan Franzen's Freedom and I'm absolutely loving it. However, it doesn't have that comfy, cosy feel that I want in a Christmas read, so I'm going to leave it half-finished until the new year. Instead, I'm going to immerse myself in the wonder of Lady Winifred Fortescue's Perfume from Provence, which I got as a Secret Santa present yesterday.
