The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman. I've always meant to read it and what better time than 100 years to the month after the events it describes?
7/2000 - Emigrated USA to Canada
4/2008 - Met British partner
9/2009 - Moved to UK on Proposed CP/Fiance visa
12/2009 - Civil partnership
3/2010 - FLR(M)
2012 (? it's all a blur, but "old rules") - ILR
9/2013 - Naturalised/Right of Abode
2/2017 - Cannot leave UK until Canadian passport returned by the Home Office!

An epic work.

I'm in the middle of Gaiman's "American Gods," and I'm really enjoying it! I've loved quite a few of his works. I've been meaning to read it for years, but I always find something else to read. *grins* Anyone else a Gaiman fan?

I've just finished Sharp Objects. That's now all three Gillian Flynn books for me. Wow, her stuff is deliciously unsettling. I can't wait for the Gone Girl film (started her books with that one). Dark Places had some of the most awful people I've ever read. Sharp Objects is just so creepy and unsettling.

On to The Weight of Blood now....

I love his and Terry Pratchett's collaboration on Good Omen's. Though his Ocean at the End of the Lane is amazing! It just came out last year.

I read Sharp Objects a few years ago, it was definitely unsettling! She did a great job creating the characters and her descriptions are awesome. I haven't read any of her other books though, I just might have to look into them! Sharp Objects was given to me when I was working a concierge desk and had chatted books with one of the guests. She left me the book when she checked out.

I have finally started "Pride and Prejudice", after intending to get to it for years. Since I have it on my phone, I can get to it in bits and pieces when I can. I'd prefer to sit and read it as an actual book. but life seems too hectic for that at the moment.

Anyone else a Gaiman fan?

I admit, I have only until recently starting reading one of his novels. I loved Mirrormask the movie. Before that I read his Sandman graphic novels. Which I love by the way. I am working on Good Omens right now. I started it in the summer then Hubs kidnapped it and lost it in the pile of junk in his old car. I just got it back last week. One thing I can say so far with Good Omens (I'm at the paintball seminar thingee, part right now)and Sandman is he is awesome with dialogue!  ;D
Keepin' it real. Real annoying.

OOOH! If you are reading it, then you should see if you can power through it because the BBC did a radio program where they did an adaption of the novel (Good Omens), they aired it around Christmas. It should be available through most of January, as they programs are available for a month. When they did Neverwhere last Christmas it ended up being available for purchase a few months later on audible.

I'd lend out Good Omens and never get it back! haha. I think I've had 4 copies of it.

Good Omens was my introduction to both Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. I branched out after that. My favorite of Neil's is actually one of his newer novels, "The Ocean at the End of the Lane." It's not super long, but it's absolutely fantastic!

The Alexia Tarabotti/ Parasol Protectorate series. A silly steampunk, supernatural romantic comedy of manners with science! And intrigue! I'm completely addicted.
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

I just saw your comment. You can tell I don't come to this mini forum part much! I'll have a look and see where I can find the radio version of it, if it's not on the BBC still. I'm still reading it. Ugh, I am so slow reading. I need to focus on one book at a time. :-X

Sounds like an awesome book, City of Villages :)

*grins* I'm one of those people that HAS to finish a book as soon as possible. I hate putting a book I'm really into down. Marathon reading sessions happen all too often with me.
I think it was up for a month, but I have a feeling it will be out on Audible in not too long. They did Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman last Christmas and it was on Audible within a month I think. Yeah, my friend was going to download it for me cause I didn't have an Audible account.
