Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.

Quite good. I’d recommend it.

I read Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs, really cute and honest writing about pregnancy.

I was really disappointed with Belly Laughs.  It just sort of seemed like she was working too hard to push the whole gross factor.  But, my son was about a year old when I read it so that may have something to do with it.

Sort of along the same wavelength, I really recommend An Innocent, A Broad by Ann Leary.  I know a lot of people say "oh no - don't read it when you're pregnant!", but I did and it wasn't bad at all.  You know from the very first page that everything turns out fine, so there's never anything bad lurking in the background.  Plus, underneath it all is a really sweet love story between her and Denis.

Yeah, I knew reading a book by Jenny McCarthy was going to be interesting.  Everyone seems to go through different stuff when they are pregnant, she seemed to have it really bad (Or so she said)  but that's why I liked it, she didn't hold back at all.

I read Ann Leary's book as well.  A friend recommended to me last year, after she had her son 3 months early.  Scary stuff, but great book!

Rough Crossing - Simon Schama

American Revolutionary War history (and therefore British history as well) -- but about the slaves in America being offered freedom if they joined the British side...all the interesting contradictions about revolutionary America's doctrine of 'all men being created equal' while sanctioning slavery, as well as the Brits essentially wanting to use the slaves as well...and whether the free life the former slaves (who survived) were given - were they better or worse off, etc etc
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

- from Anthem, by Leonard Cohen (b 1934)

That was filmed here!

I went up and watched them film the town scene where they drive the motor car around in the square....it's about 2 minutes from where I live.

The antique dealer is Norman Wisdom...

It was really interesting watching it filmed.......but God it is a lonnnnnggg process......got fed up in the end.

I knew that, Meshell! The film was pretty feh compared to the wonderful book, but isn't that always the way?

I think parts of "I Capture the Castle" were filmed over there near you too, but that may have been before you lived there. How long have you been there? I think they did it in 2001 or 2002. Anyway, the other parts of it were filmed right across the street from me!

Actually, the castle that was used for both exterior and interior shots was here in Wales. But the village was where you are. And there was a sort of tower like structure that was over there, too. But the castle is here! My cousin worked on the set and was an extra!

Last night started and finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. (I read it instead of writing a uni paper, which is due tonight!! EEK! I'm a horrendous procrastinator!)

Now, on to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. :)

I just got In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, anyone else read it?  I saw Capote last week and it was amazing!!!!  The movie focuses around him getting info to write this book.
