"Third Culture Kids" by David Pollock and Ruth Van Reken.  I'm only just starting, but first I've got to say THANKS to onetiger for recommending this book!!!  Even in just the first couple of chapters, I've come to the realization that I am an 'ATCK' myself and boy, has that ever shaped how I see the world!!!  I've got a ways to go before I get to the bit about how to maximize the benefits for my girls, but talk about some valuable insight....

(Thanks, onetiger!!!) ;D :-*
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I'm reading Keeping the World Away by Margaret Forster -- following the lives of various women through ownership of a Gwen John painting. The first part is all about Gwen John's life, from Tenby (near where I live) to Paris, where she was Rodin's mistress. Fascinating reading so far.

Just read Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.  I think it won the Pulitzer Prize?  Anyway it was good but a difficult read.  I'm still not sure if I liked it or was just interested in it.  Stories about hermaphrodites are difficult to fathom.   :-\\\\

I just finished reading The Pact by Jodi Picoult and loved it so I'm now devouring My Sister's Keeper. I have this trend of avoiding really popular books while people are raving about them and then dipping in once the dust has settled.

Really enjoying her writing style, I have to say!

Just finished The Pact, it was so good.  I think I'll have to start on My Sister's Keeper soon as well.

Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky.  I'm reading this for my book club.  It's really interesting about France during WWII and was written by a woman who intended to make it into a four or five part novel, but she was killed in Auschwitz after only completing 2 of the novels.  It was later found and now 65 years later has been translated from French and published.

I'm almost done with 1984 and thinking about a good biography next. Anyone have suggestions?
I know I'm late - where's the booze?

OK, I asked Rich, He Liked the new one by John Peel. Margrave Of The Marshes   Half was done by him and the other half by his wife (He died in the middle of writing it)

Another is Between Silk and Suicide By Leo Marks

My dad I can ask as well.  He likes things about War and Sports though, I know that.

I love biographies! One of my favourites is Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman. It's full of scandal, sex, history and intrigue. And it's very well written.

I keep thinking of more biographies I love!

Last year I read Lizzie Siddal: Portrait of a Pre-Raphaelite Supermodel. Awesome! She was the model for many of the Pre-Raphaelite painters, Rosetti in particular, and was his lover/fiancee for years.

Years ago, I read a biography of Beatrix Potter that I really loved. It's an old (probably out of print) book, but I'm sure there are loads more. It might be an interesting read with the upcoming Renee Zellwegger (sp?) Beatrix Potter film coming out soon.

Another one I loved was a biography of Julia Child. This, too, was a while ago (before she died), so I'm sure there are more up-to-date bios of her out there. It's about a lot more than cooking! Did you know she was in the OSS?? Fascinating woman.

Hmmm... I guess I don't read too many biographies of men!  :-\\\\

I forgot to mention another one I haven't read but keep meaning to pick up: The Short Life and Long Times of Mrs Beeton by Kathryn Hughes. Who knew Mrs. Beeton may have had syphilis!!  :o
