I am really enjoying the first His Dark Materials book -- and yeah, I'd say better than Harry Potter (and I'm a Potter fan).  I like that there's a tomboy girl protagonist.  Has anyone else read these?  Is this really supposed to be a child's book? :-[

Yes I've read them all and I loved them. I thought they were much better than Harry Potter (I'm one of those strange people that don't see the Harry Potter series as any more than quite a good childrens books). My teenage boys liked the  Dark Materials trilogy too.

Oh HME, I am glad that you posted.  I was just thinking about this -- do you have any suggestions on finding a good book club here in Leeds?  There was one in our little local bookshop (on our street) but this particular one just didn't seem like my kind of thing.  I may be just too picky though.

QG how was the Midge Ure autobiog? I had a TREMENDOUS crush on him at one time. I loved him. No, really, I LOVED him.

A bit off track, but has anyone else been having trouble with Amazon's free delivery? It seems to take FOREVER lately. It seems like they used to be much more efficient.

I still do...  [smiley=smitten.gif]

I enjoyed the book... pretty much devoured it in about 3 days.
I especially liked reading about his early life in Glasgow, and his early bands like Salvation and Slik.
Reading the book caused me to go and buy a DVD of Ultravox videos!

Ahhh. I think I may have to add some Ultravox to the Ipod this weekend. I'm a bit slow getting everything I have on to it, and that hasn't made it quite yet. I think it's time.
