I finished Northern Lights about a week ago -- great read!  Now we need to get the second book of the trilogy...

Been casting about since for what to start on, and so last night, I started reading Spanish Steps - One Man and his Ass on the Pilgrim Way to Santiago by Tim Moore.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

- from Anthem, by Leonard Cohen (b 1934)

A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby.  I've never read any of his other books, but this one is really good.  Really witty and a pretty quick read.

He's one of my fave writers!

I'm reading Emma Darwin: The Inspirational Wife of a Genius by Edna Healey. I like biographies and thought it sounded interesting, so I bought it. A few hours later, I was leafing through it and came across a photo of Cresselly House -- which is near here! And I actually know (sort of) the people who live there! It turns out Emma Darwin was born there and has a lot of connections to this area! Who knew?!?

Sometimes, a book is just meant to be!!  I love that!

I love Nick Hornby.  I've read a few of his - haven't made it to a Long Way Down.  Really good writer!

Mansfield Park.  Something about Jane Austen always sets my heart right.  :)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Well after lugging FOUR books with me to Italy, the weather ended up being so awful that we all had to entertain each other most of the week. Only had two half days of lying in the sun and being engrossed in a book. So I'm about 3/4 through We Need To Talk About Kevin and haven't even cracked the others. I really do like that one though!

Me, too!  I've read About A Boy more times than I can count.  After the disaster that was How To Be Good, I'm very glad that A Long Way Down was back up to his normal standards.

Finished Broke Heart Blues by Joyce Carol Oates and am now halfway through Sanctuary by William Faulkner. He's difficult to read on many levels but always worth it.

Haven't read any of his other than High Fidelity, but I may check A Long Way Down out on Saturday.

I'm another Nick Hornby fan! Particularly loved High Fidelity, About A Boy, and Fever Pitch!

I was in need of something light and airy after finishing We Need To Talk About Kevin (which I ended up really liking a lot) so I just quickly raced through Vincent And Joy by Lisa Jewell. Good, happy chick lit - exactly what I needed. Now I've finally started Never Let Me Go.
