I'm halfway through "The Time Traveler's Wife".  It was a bit hard to get into but I am enjoying it.  I don't usually have lots of time to read so I only do it at night, just before I go to sleep.  It's a thick book and it's taking me longer than usual.

This is a really good book, but I agree it is hard to get into and confusing.  One of my friends had to finish it and then immediately begin it over so she could read it "knowing what she knew now."

Okay, ladies, I completely recommend this book to you: Straight Up and Dirty by Stephanie Klein.  I'm reading it for my book club and just started it this afternoon and cannot put it down.  It's a very witty memoir.  If you enjoy Sex and the City, you'll enjoy it!

Kristina, do you live in London by any chance?  If not, I'd love to find a local book club, could you steer me in the right direction? TIA

Just finished Jodi Picolt's "The Pact" (wonderful and heart wrenching!) and am now getting into "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards....she's the one that wrote the "Mermaid Chair and The Secret Life of Bees" which were both great!!

I have to say, I wasn't thrilled with The Time Traveler's Wife.  I read it twice, I sort of liked it, but I didn't really like the story.  I think I liked the writing style more than the actual story.

It wasn't one of my favourites either. I thought the whole thing was sort of lazily written. And I never felt a connection between the two main characters.

June,

I do live in London.  I met my book club through another Expat forum I used to be on and they are a fantastic group of women.  They are mostly American.  We meet once a month on a Saturday at a local restaurant (or a park when the weather is nice) and usually spend several hours talking about lots of different things.  We always eventually talk about the book, but sometimes our gossip gets in the way for a while ;)  What I like about the group is that no one person is the leader.  Everyone is free to suggest books, places to meet, etc.  One of the members is moving to Dubai and I'd be happy to ask if they'd mind a new member joining.  I'll PM this to you to make sure you see it!

Kristina

Onwards and Upwards by Arabella Weir. Absolutely wonderful read, really funny and witty, about three girls who meet at school in the seventies, and the book follows their lives through out the next three decades. The author is a comic writer and performer, and one of my favorites authors now! I love it when I find a good author!!

I just finished "Sickened" by Julie Gregory...it is the true story of a girl who's mother abused her in the worst way possible by making her sick so she would have to see the doctors and get uneccessary tests and stuff. The story is unbelieveable and that Julie survived it is amazing. I couldn't put it down..
