DC to London
« on: February 19, 2012, 02:36:56 AM »
Hey everyone! I've been lurking around the forum for some time now, but decided to finally join and post!

I'm 23, have recently been granted my Post-Study Work visa and will be moving to London in late April. I have lived in the UK on three previous occasions, most recently from August 2010 to May 2011 while I was earning my Master's in International Relations at King's College London. (A sudden death in the family prompted my return to the US.) While I am quite excited about my upcoming move, it is also somewhat daunting since it will be the first time that I do not have a return ticket booked. I do not currently have a job lined up in London, but am hoping that with enough perseverance, networking, and a bit of luck I will be able to find something within a few months of moving.

I am originally from Laurel, Maryland, a town located just outside DC, and attended undergrad for History and Museum Studies in rural southern Maryland. During my junior year, I studied abroad in Oxford and Edinburgh, and completely fell in love with the UK. I had the wonderful opportunity of interning with the US Government in Edinburgh during the summer of 2010 and moved to London for grad school shortly after. Unfortunately, my year in London was devoted mainly to my studies and I spent the majority of my time in the library. Now that I will be moving back, I am hoping to meet more people, enjoy a bit more of a social life, and start my life in general.

This forum has already been enormously helpful and I look forward to chatting with some of you!

-Rebecca

I'm doing my masters in Accounting at King's right now!! I am also working part time and I hope to stay in London working for the same company after I graduate. I would suggest signing up with a recruiting agent right away-I think they are a great way to find a job that suits you and it looks as if you are pretty specialized so they might be able to steer you in the right direction for placements!  :)

Thanks everyone! I just booked my ticket last night for April 26th. I'm super excited but also incredibly nervous!

A fellow KCL-er! Thanks for the tip!
