Let's talk body art
« on: March 03, 2012, 07:49:56 AM »
Well, hello ladies. I, Amanda, 20 years of age, she whom hates needles and feels like passing out at the sight of them, got her first tattoo today. (Said I'd never get one. Who would've thought I'd ever lose my tattoo virginity!!)

It's on my wrist and I love, love, love it. I got something that is an important saying which I want to live my life by. It is a saying in lovely cursive and I got it as small as I could. Because I am a wimp. I got it in the best place in town. Found out Nick Lachey was tattooed at the same place as me. Hardcore, right?  :P BUT, I was just wondering, do you guys have any tattoos? Extra piercings besides the traditional two ears (like meeee) or any other body mods? Or am I the only "weirdo" out there in this forum?? I joke, I joke.

I just thought it'd be a interesting topic to chat about and see if I'm not the only one that seems to like them/have them. Even if I only have like basically two "modifications." My new tattoo and my ears. Although I do change my hair color a lot, right now it's blonde and black and I don't mean to tute my own horn but it's pretty amazing. Not sure why I mentioned my hair color in a post that has nothing to do with it....

Ah, well.

When I was in my 20's and 30's most of my friends and acquaintances had tattoos.  I was in the minority.  On my 30th birthday I was going to get one (I designed it myself) around my upper arm, but chickened out.

When I was in my 20's I had my nose pierced, but it got icky, so I had to take the stud out and let it heal, and it closed up.

So I am sort of boring looking these days.  I used to do Manic Panic in my hair though, and it looked cool.  Not anymore though.

I almost chickened out too.  But I was with my aunt, and her friend and they were like, c'mon you can totally do this. I did want it, I was just afraid of the pain. I love tattoos and such but I am a SERIOUS wimp with pain. My aunt's friend recorded me getting it done. Took a whole four minutes and I'm making such ridiculous, hilarious faces. The tattoo artist was actually taking the piss I was laughing the whole time. But all in all, I'm glad. Don't think I'd do it again to get another. I would never just get one to get one. It has to have some kind of significance to me.

How much did your nose hurt? I wanted more piercings too but I'm more scared with that because my ears were SO hard to keep open. I had to get them redone five times from the time I was a kid, until they finally stuck when I was 17. Plus, I just get those cheapo little body jewels from Claire's and stick 'em on my nose. No one has been the wiser, haha.

I use Manic Panic and Raw, only because it doesn't do nearly as much damage as the salon brands.

I've got two tattoos..one between my shoulders which is Celtic and small and a big ass red bow on my lower back...which i designed myself..

I got that one after I finished my weight loss journey and had finished all my plastic surgeries. I was going to get a phoenix...but couldn't find one that I liked enough to have for the rest of my life...

I would love to have another one but not sure what or where..but it LOVE love my bow...

I have two tattoos, one on my shoulder and one on the lower back--the last one I wish I could move to another location. I had it done before the term "tramp stamp" entered the language.  I also have my belly button and my tongue pierced.  The tongue stud I know I should take out as I'm far too old for it now, but I've had it nearly twelve years and would miss it if it weren't there.  I've got multiple holes in my ears too, though I really only wear one set of earrings these days.  I had all this done in college, but haven't done anything since.  I would consider getting another tattoo, but I don't want to get carried away with it.  Tattoos can be addictive.  One of my friends from college was like you, MandyBoo.  After her first tattoo she said it hurt too much and she'd never do that again, but she got a second about six months later and now she has more than ten, I think.

I also used to dye my hair different colours.  My favourite was when I had blonde on the top and either dark red or coffee brown underneath.  Fond memories :)

I don't think it hurt too much, but once it got infected--that hurt.  I think I got my ears pierced when I was 12 and never had a problem with the holes closing.

I did a second hole  in one ear myself with a pin!  Or was it a sewing needle?  ::)  I was about 20 and thought I was quite the punk rocker so went ahead and did it.  Surprisingly it didn't get infected!

As far as I know, it's mostly vegetable dye and won't damage your hair at all.

I do sort of regret not getting that tattoo, as the design I came up with back then would still be meaningful to me today.

MandyBoo, I could be your mother!

I enjoyed everyone's sharing about their tattoos.  :)

Yay, so glad to see I'm not the only one on here with them! So interested to read everyone's different body mods. :)

The tongue stud I know I should take out as I'm far too old for it now, but I've had it nearly twelve years and would miss it if it weren't there.

Nah, never too old! Besides, if it's basically apart of you now, no reason to ever get rid of it. I think I'd be too afraid to ever get a piercing like that. I love tongue piercings but I don't like the idea of it swelling up after I've had it done! Too scary!

Oh, also I don't think I said what my tattoo actually says. I got "Be Not Afraid" because I have really bad anxiety and I worry and get depressed. Like some serious depression. I just wanted a reminder to let me live without fear since I could get hit by a bus tomorrow, and I don't wanna spend my life worrying about what's gonna happen 10 years from now as life is too short to waste on such things. The tattoo artist was like, at my reaction to the needle, "Maybe you should just get 'Afraid' on there." lol. Smartass.

I wish my ears took so easily!! I'd never have the balls to do that to myself, haha, power to ya! I remember I got them redone when I was 13. Turns out my skin ended up growing over the stud. My grandma had to yank it out, and boy did that hurt and bleed. Ughhh, not fond memories.

I don't know what it was, but they only seemed to not get infected and stay that way when I used something called Sea Salt spray. Always keep it near by if my ears don't have nice reaction to a cheapo pair of earrings I get. By far a godsend for people like me that are very sensitive with piercings. D'aww you're sweet. I did too, I've always been interested in alternative styles and such. Love that people aren't afraid to express themselves. :D

Oooh, good topic, Mandy!

I LOVE, LOVE tattoos. I've got 7 of them at the moment. And I really want one on my foot (from my toe to my heel), but I'm waiting to get back to England (anyone know any good tattooists in Sheffield?) and find a tattoo artist that I like. One of my favorites is a pin up that is down my left side (it took 5 hours and I took a little nap). I got it at the London Tattoo Convention in 2009. Sadly, that was my last one. I'm due for another.

As for piercings, I can never keep them in. I had my lip pierced while I was in Australia and I really liked it. I might have to get it done again. And I've had my cartilage pierced more times than I can count, but it's never worked out. Plus, I've had other parts pierced, but those didn't work out either. I'll definitely go back for the lip when I get to England.

How much did your nose hurt?

I had mine done at a beauty salon, of all places. The woman used a small ear gun on it, with a child sized starter stud like they use for ears. She immediately took the back off it, and I left it in for two weeks. That way is painless.

I have three holes in each ear lobe, and two holes at the top of my left ear.

For tattoos, I have comedy/tragedy masks on my left ankle, with a small KISS logo just above them. I also have Taz on my upper left (outer) thigh. I also have a mess on my right shoulder (back) that a friend's fiance (at the time... we were 20) did, that I really don't like to look at or talk about. I'd seen his work on other people and it all looked great. When he did mine, he decided to do something completely different. I wanted Gandalf from the animated version of the Hobbit. He did something horrid. My next tattoo will be something covering his mess.

I'm obsessed with Peter Austrich and want to get something by him, I'm probably going to travel to Berlin next year and get something between my wrist and elbow (underside), I'm planning to leave the design mostly up to him :)

I've got no other tattoos and no piercings, I did have my eyebrow done at one point but I was never sure it suited me.

Nice!

I currently have my nose pierced and 2 tattoo's. 1 on my back between shoulder blades that my cousin designed and did and paw prints on my hip from when I was like 22.

I have had my tongue pierced but it got old and I have 3 holes in each ear but I only wear one pair now.

CB! He is amazing!  :D I am the rare bird amongst my friends in that they are all covered in tattoos and I have none. I want them, but I am incredibly picky and want them to be absolutely beautiful. I blame my years of studying art. This guy is an artist I would be happy to work with!

The only other artist I felt inspired by is this one: Amanada Wachob

I don't necessarily want paint swirls tattooed on me (though I would consider it depending on the composition), but I love her painterly technique. So much potential for having something truly beautiful.

Me too!

I wish I could show the tattoo on my side, but the only pictures that I can find are on a website of a photographer who I did a Sexy Shoot (this was DH's Christmas gift one year) with.

But here is who did my tattoo at the London Tattoo Convention in 2009: http://www.woodystattoostudio.com/Tattoo%20Gallerys/Woodys%20Galleries/WOODY26.html
