Turbotax and it's question about visas
« on: March 12, 2012, 05:35:53 PM »
Here's a question for other Turbotax users: I'm using Turbotax 2011, and in the section for entering foreign income, there's a question about visas, but it's a bit unclear.

The bold bit at the top asks "What kind of visa does XXX have?" But underneath that it asks: "Describe the type of visa XXX had when XXX entered the foreign country."

The problem is that the type of visa we had when we entered the country and the type of visa we now have has changed due to acquiring ILR. The options to answer are Work, Student, Tourist, Other (if you select the latter, you can type in an answer). We had a Work Permit when we entered.

BUT then the next question is "Does your visa limit the amount of time you can work outside the US," and the options are "limited" or "unlimited". Well, the Work Permit was limited, but what we have now is unlimited. So to answer the questions as they are put, we'd have to state that we has  Work visa when we entered, and that our visa is unlimited (because what we currently have is).

What the heck do I put here?
