Great we can wait together!   :)  Not long now.

I guess the school that is the closest to us is also one of the top schools in the north, which we didnt know.  We just want the closest one!  So we also hope to have our 1st choice, but if not, all of the others were also rated 1's.

What city council did you apply through?  We are still in States (will be arriving in July) so I am staying up until midnight on the 15th to get the email!  lol.

Good luck - I hope they get into the school you want :).

Just wondering if it will be worth doing that... because midnight PST on the 15th  is only 8 a.m. on the 16th in the UK... chances are, they won't have even even arrived at work yet, let alone sent the email out :P.

I would imagine that the emails will be sent out somewhere between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. PST on the 16th (between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. UK time).

I think the application states the emails are sent at 8a - that is why I was going to wait!  haha.

We are in Manchester but right on the boarder of Trafford so had equal number of schools in a mile radius.  All the schools were a 2 for the most part so.  DD is attending nursery full time at the primary school around the corner from us so we are hoping for that one.  From what I was told it's not a "popular" school so they usually don't have a problem getting a spot.  I am curious if we will get the "popular" school in Trafford then we will have a decision to make I guess.  Should be interesting!!!

We are in Newcastle and selected 4.  I guess I didn't think about whether more than one accepting you, I thought they would just tell us which one we got in.  Not long now!

Oh ok I see!  Too bad we missed out on nursery, the cost of daycare is so expensive in the states!

I know- we got here in Oct and were just planning on using the 15 hours.  Turns out the nursery attached to the primary school right here gets an additional 15 hours supplemented by the city- so 30 total.  That was a good surprise and DD loves it.  Its close that's why were are probably going to keep her there for reception but we'll see if we get anything else.

DS turns 3 in Feb and they only do a Sept and Jan intake so he'll probably go to a private one as soon as he qualifies instead of waiting.

That is too bad did you say your son can go on a waiting list in case a spot opens or he will have to wait until Sept?  I guess it is only a few months in private.  Not sure if you saw on other thread but we have triplets so needed 3 places!  We were going to move in 2013 but the kids would have been 5 and the school told us it would be next to impossible to get 3 spots in the second year.  So we are moving this summer!  How are you settling in now that you have been there a few months?

The intake would be for the Sept following his birthday.  They said I could sign him up from now (he just turned 2) to get on the list but I doubt he'd get in early with all the other spring birthdays.  You can use the 15 hours at a private place too (incase you didn't know ) so we'll just do that until Sept.  No biggie

We're settling in good thank you!!  Kids have adjusted really well and we're finally finding our feet.  I saw your other posts about moving to Newcastle- we actually lived in Durham a few years ago!!  3 years there def made the move to Manchester a lot easier- I couldn't imagine doing it for the first time with 3 kids!!  Although we're both American so didn't have a clue what we were doing haha

Hi tmfigy I just saw that I never responded to this, I am so sorry!  We got our placement back in April and getting ready to leave in a few weeks!

How are things going there?  I am really glad to hear that your kids adjusted well, I was just getting ready to post a new topic about that.  How did you end up in UK, did you come on a student or work visa?  I have been married for nearly 7 years, we never talked about moving over and I never even thought about it because my husband always said he was not interested.  But then kids come and change everything!   :)

Haha I just responded to your other post:)  Yeah we got our place which is great.  DD will be at the same school as she was for nursery and its just a short walk for us.

As for us being here- DH was offered a post doc at Durham for 3 years (so your neck of the woods) so we came on a work visa.  After he was done there he was offered 2 years at CERN so I moved back to the US and then Manchester Uni offered him his current fellowship post so we are here again on a 3 year work visa.  I would say for us the first year was the hardest but coming back was easy as we knew a lot more this time around.  Also adjusting with the kids has been fine since we haven't had so much other stuff to "figure" out too.

On a side note we were planning to visit Durham next week but have had a family emergency come up so had to cancel.  Am hoping to get that way before the end of summer though.

Good luck with the next few weeks!!

Wow how exciting for you, I am doing my PhD as well and looked at Durham but ended up deciding on Newcastle.  Can't wait to get started.  So were your kids born in the states or there?
