UPS query

It seems that I might find a more helpful answer here than with UPS's own customer support line!

I am sending my documents from the UK to the US for my fiance in the US to make his fiance visa application. I am sending my original passport, and was not sure if I needed to fill in some sort of special form or something. I read somewhere on their website about needing to include proof of immigration status (or something like this)?

I wasn't sure what this meant, so I called their customer helpline, and the guy stated word for word what was on the website. So I asked him what it meant, and he told me he didn't actually know. He then told me to fill in three copies of a pro forma (which looks like a long and semi-complicated form) or use my birth certificate.. I wasn't really sure if he meant include it in the package, or give it to the driver. Or if I just needed a copy, or the original.

Has anyone else used UPS to send their original passport?

With 6th April fast approaching, I really don't want to delay the delivery because I didn't do something I needed to.

Unless there has been some drastic change in the last year that I don't know about, you only have to send clean clear copies of your passport.  My hubby scanned and emailed me the copies for my fiance visa.  Just make sure they are very clear scanned copies of the ID pages inside.

My understanding is the passport copies have to be certified copies, they can't just be copied on the printer which is why my husband is mailing me his passport.

Tiye - not sure about your UPS question, I think my husband is going to use one called AirSure or something like that? He used them to send an iPad he sent me last year and it sending his passport so that it must be signed for. Other than that I'm not sure what is required.

They don't certify everything over here, like we do back in the States.  

OP- I found the list of what you need to include. Edited to Add- It says at the top of that list that they do not expect you to submit everything on that list.

Idk, I just know I have only ever saw that you have to send a certified copy for them to keep for their records if you aren't sending the actual passport or the actual passport but a regular copy of it for it to keep for their records.

The sponsor's id need can be sent 3 ways

1. actual passport
2. certified copy of passport
3. photocopy of passport and original birth certificate.

Not sure about the UPS query though. My DH sent me his passport via UPS, but I'm not sure of the paperwork that was involved in sending it.

Yeah I was under the impression that it was one of the 3 ways aricarai listed it.

I guess I could send my passport copy with my birth certificate, that would solve the query!

Tiye- Whether you send it FedEx, UPS, or DHL, there will be a form on the top of the international letter envelope that you fill out for customs.  This will ask you about the contents of the package and the value of the package.  A Proforma invoice is a commercial invoice and not what you would send. You wouldn't send your birth certificate for customs or UPS purposes either.  UPS in the UK mostly deals with business accounts at the moment so that is why the customer care people were unqualified to answer your questions. (Hubby works for UPS.)  When you go to send the package, they will have standardized forms for you to use. 

Thanks drofnnyl. I was planning on arranging a pick-up from my offices at work. I should probably stop worrying, I'm sure they're not just going to accept my package no questions asked haha
