Thank you, ksand24! This is good news for many of us - but discouraging for others.

It's amazing how little even the politicians understand about this.
The topic was brought up last night on BBC's Question Time and the Conservative minister was stating that the rules of income need to be increased to prevent spouses coming in and being dependent on benefit! Of course then the audience pick up on this as well, it's a shame there wasn't anyone in the audience who could tell them about the "no recourse to public funds" clause on the visa!

I have not been on here in a while, and people at work have been talking about all this, and my father in law has been asking.. I came here in 2008 on a spouse visa, I now have ILR, and qualify for citizenship, just have not gotten the money up yet.. will any of these new rules affect me?

If you have ILR, you're in the clear. My wife just recently got hers (in the nick of time, too!) and we're now out of the whole immigration process.

They can't retroactively change immigration status, as far as I'm aware (unless you do something QUITE serious, maybe?).

I'm fairly sure that the citizenship process has been unaffected by all the changes being made. It's just the actual migration process itself that's been targeted.

I'm glad we're through it too - if we'd have waited a couple of years and these changes went through we'd have been outta luck - I earn 15k, nowhere near the required income for a sponsor.

I feel so bad for those that have to deal with this. It's really made marrying a non-EU citizen something for the only the rich (I consider anything about 20k to be rich, haha).
