Rootbeer

So my fiance says it tastes like Germoline.   :P

I take it that I probably won't be able to get a frosty mug of Diet A&W.

All the Brits I've spoken to say it tastes like mouthwash to them.  :D

There's a guy on ebay that sells imported A&W here, I think it's something like £15 for 24 cans.  Steep, but when the craving hits.....:)

The DF says it's like mouthwash--however, he quite likes it as a rootbeer float.  Go figure.

Germalione...hmmm never heard of it. Rootbeer mouthwash sounds interesting however.

My husband liked homemade root beer and didn't make any connections to mouth wash.

After being told by numerous Brits about the smell of germoline, I found a tube in the medicine cabinet...and sure enough, it DOES kinda smell like root beer.......but I sure didn't taste the stuff! lol (nor did it put me off the taste of root beer, either)  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

There's loads of recipes on the internet. I haven't tried it myself though. You'll need rootbeer extract for it which you'll probably have to get from the US. I could be wrong but I believe all commercial rootbeer flavor is now artificial but it used to be made from the sarsaparilla plant.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Talking about making root beer, where could you get the dry ice to make it?
It isn't like all the grocery stores have it in the ice container in the front of the store like in the US.

I am so  glad that I found this site so I could ask questions to people that might know the answers instead of bothering my poor clueless husband.  ;)

Looks like some possibly do-able recipes there. Don't know how available rootbeer extract will be but I reckon the sassafras will be at the health food stores.

erm...yeah if you use dry ice for halloween, please don't put it where people can easily confuse it for regular ice.

i was at a party where they had it everywhere, really cool.  i went into the freezer to get ice as i had drank too much and wanted water and stuck my hand into a box and went hmmm....that really smarts.

i put a bunch in my cup, thinking it was just really cold as my hand went numb and at the last moment someone stopped me from drinking it.

that could have been a very VERY bad situation!
