Weekly Meme - 5 Questions! (week commencing 22/4/12)
« on: April 23, 2012, 03:55:18 PM »
Another new thread - kind of a game, but we'll not split hairs.  5 questions--ideally I think these ought to get posted up at the weekend, so I'm late to my own game - hey!  I'll nominate someone to put up new questions next weekend/Monday, and then they can nominate someone & so on...  (and yeah, I've lifted these from other question memes on the net, or someone might trawl the games board for ideas if you need them...)

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

4) What is your earliest memory?

5) Do you have any siblings?

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

I was asked this recently, and didn't have any idea what to answer! But this weekend we saw the film Never Let Me Go & I liked it so very much more than I liked that book (by Kazuo Ishiguro).  The book just fell flat for me - meh.  I loved the film however!  I understand that he writes in similar style for his books, so I wonder if - although I loved Remains of the Day as a film, wonder if I would hate the book?

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

Pizza!

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

Pleasure!

4) What is your earliest memory?

Camping (summer vacation) in the mountains of Colorado with my family - I was about 3 or 4.

5) Do you have any siblings?

Yes - 2 older brothers.

Come on, play & answer the questions!  :)

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

Yes, Forrest Gump. I just didn't like the book. I found it disjointed, although I liked the character of Jenny better in the book than I did in the film.

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

Spinach ravioli

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

Pleasure.

4) What is your earliest memory?

My 5th birthday party.

5) Do you have any siblings?

Yes, 3. I am the eldest. I have two brothers: Eddie is only 10 months younger, Anthony is 22 months younger, and my sister Maureen, who is 15 1/2 years younger (the "surprise" baby :) ).

Nice!

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

Yes, Shawshank Redemption (well I suppose its not a true book, its the novella - Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption from Different Seasons by Stephen King)

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

Pleasure!

4) What is your earliest memory?

Not actually a nice one, but I was just two years old and had pneumonia.  But I can completely remember the hospital, the brown crib and oxygen tent and the wind up television music box I got as a gift.

5) Do you have any siblings?

Yes, three sisters. I’m second oldest.

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?
Not a film exactly but the TV show True Blood. The show is really good bad TV, the books are just bad. I read them all but they're really completely junk food books. I finished them all in about 2 weeks and that was including waiting for them to be available at the library....

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
A sandwich made of really good, fresh, summer tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and good, crusty bread.

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?
Comfort.

4) What is your earliest memory?
Earliest? I'm not sure. I have a lot of memories from aorund the age of 2 or 3. When I was two, my mom and I went to San Francisco to visit my uncle, his Japanese wife and their newborn baby. I remember having to take off my shoes to go into the house and my mom sitting me on the edge of the Golden Gate Bridge for a photo and being really scared. I blame her for my fear of heights. :)

5) Do you have any siblings?
Yup, a younger brother.

That book creeped me out to no end and gave me nightmares for ages. I refused to see the movie. It's such a scary and unsettling premise....

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

Yes, several.  I find that if I see a film first then read the book then I appreciate the merits of both, but if I read and love the book first, then I tend not to like the movie.  Field of Dreams is one that springs to mind, but there are others.

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

Homemade pasta with homemade basil pesto.  I'm pretty sure it would take a loooong time to get sick of that.

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

This is tough because for me comfort=pleasure.  It would probably depend on how "comfort" was defined.

4) What is your earliest memory?

It sounds awful, but it's actually my parents getting drunk and silly when I was three.

5) Do you have any siblings?

Yes, one brother.

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

I'm sure there are a few, but 'The Jane Austen Book Club' film was a much better than the book.

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

A tomato-y vegetable soup / stew thing with beans and pasta in it. (healthy, tomato-y, pasta-y)

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

It's very rare than any of us would live in complete comfort for the rest of our lives, and nothing was said about life being a hardship, so the obvious answer here is having a  year of pleasure!

4) What is your earliest memory?

Age 2, being in my crib, reaching out for the perfume on  my mom's dresser and pouring it on my little stuffed tiger.  I still have that tiger and it still smells of perfume; but I did 'freshen it up' again with a spritz of my mom's 'Charlie' perfume when I was in my teens.

5) Do you have any siblings?

One sister, 3 years younger than me.

I can't think of one off the top of my head.

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

Cobb Salad.  Seriously.  I love the crap out of that stuff.

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

Comfort.  As someone who lives with chronic pain, comfort's underrated.  And since there's no of idea what happens after the year of pleasure (do you die? do you go back to normal? do you never feel comfort or pleasure again?), I will pick the comfort.

4) What is your earliest memory?

Sitting in my high chair.  I was under 2, but old enough to understand what was being said around me.

5) Do you have any siblings?

No full siblings.  Many half siblings.  Four from both parents.

I had pneumonia when I was about a year old.  I don't remember it (of course), but I was in a tented crib in the hospital as well.  Even though I don't remember it, before he took me to the hospital, my dad sat up with me making sure I could breathe.  He was watching "Harold and Maude" which had come on the late channel.  Years later, it became one of my favourite movies, and Dad blamed that night.

1) Have you ever liked a film more than the book? If so, what film(s)?

I tend to read the book before the movie, so I almost never like the movie more than the book. However, I can say that I like High Fidelity better in movie form, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I absolutely love John Cusack.  [smiley=smitten.gif]  ;)

2) If you could only eat one thing every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

I think this changes for me, but I know we had a thread recently about it and I think my answer is still the same (for now): chicken fajitas with all the fixings (guac, sour cream, etc.)

3) Would you rather live in complete comfort for the rest of your life but experience little to no pleasure, or would you rather have one year of total pleasure?

I'm with historyenne on this one. They're not mutually exclusive for me and I suppose it depends on the definition of both. I guess I'm more inclined toward comfort.

4) What is your earliest memory?

I'm not entirely sure but I know one of the earliest is sitting in the back seat of my mom's car singing along to Madonna's "Material Girl". I must have been 3 or 4.

5) Do you have any siblings?

Yes, an older brother who I absolutely adore!  :)
