Chary, you and I are umbrella twins!

 ;D

What on earth is a wax jacket? I have never heard of that and am very interested!

Made from fabric that has been waxed, so is waterproof.

That's right...its typically cotton. Mine I got at a very good price as I worked for Barbour's online retailer and in the shop that operated there. I kept seeing them come in for rewaxing and people were telling me how long they had them for. I saw farmers and hunters and other "outdoorsy" kind of people in buying them so I figured they had to be good. Some of them are very basic...and others are quite stylish. I love mine...and hope to have it for many years.

I never liked raincoats in the US because it was typically too warm to wear them when it was really raining and I'd be sweating in it. But in the UK, well, wearing a coat in the summer isn't unheard of!  :P

Yeah, I agree. I never owned a raincoat in the US for that very reason.

In my area it seems to be more or less expected. Even when it is a warm day and raining, everyone is wearing a coat of some sort. I've DARED to be in short sleeves with an umbrella. I get loads of stares and quite a few people asking where my coat is and admonishing me to put one on before I catch my death.  ::)

I've gone through so many.  It doesn't help that Mr O hates them and won't let me take one with me if we're together.  There's this place that I've always wanted to check out, but it's never open when I am in the area:

Omphaloskepsis... my friends and i stopped there on our trip to London this past January, and the store is SO darn cute. It's feels as if you've stepped back in time.

Ironically enough, while there i bought a "bubble" umbrella, like one ones being discussed here and my friend bought a stunning walking stick. It's great to see a place like this still standing, who pride themselves in the craftsmanship of their product in the day and age of "Made in China."

Anyway, i definitely recommend a stop there when you can.

If for nothing else, to check out the cute,  be-specled, nerd-like James Dean lookalike employer who works there ;). If you've already found/met your "other half" feel free to disregard, but enjoy the view! :)

I freaking love my barbour jacket, I got a super light weight one and it's perfect for rainy spring days :)

It's just the right side of warm so I don't have to keep taking it off, (which is why i hate wearing a coat generally)

Definitely met my other half, but I will make an effort to make it there when it's open.

There's some pretty fancy ones here:

I go for the small ones with a cover that can fit easily in a bag or rucksack for no more than a tenner, 'cause they tend to get misplaced.  :-\\\\

I bought an umbrella today in an attempt to stop the rain. But also because I dropped my umbrella in the river on Wednesday night. :( I was climbing aboard the boat we're staying on temporarily and two different neighbours were trying to talk to me and my hands were full. :( I'd had it for 5 years, so it lived a good life.

I went out to Liverpool Street at lunchtime to get a replacement and the racks were like Soviet Russia - a forlorn few left, all either black or *shudder* ruffled. Found a small selection at Accessorize that were nice.

I bought this one. It doesn't have an umbrella condom, but I still have the one off my drowned one, so no problems there anyway.

I do laugh at the idea that my umbrella is "on trend" though!

Fingers crossed that it'll stop raining now that I've bought a new umbrella...

*shudder* ruffled.

I really like your new umbrella, but I also love ruffles! The umbrella I covet most in the world is one of the lingerie-inspired Chantal Thomass ones from France. They're so extraordinarily beautiful. And expensive. And ruffled.  ;)

Actually, since I come from a rainy place, I have to say, I rarely use umbrellas and have always gone for gortexes with hoods, like Mountain Equipment Co-op or Taiga.

That's a purchase I tend to bring back to the UK after visiting BC.

Hard to lose one's coat when it is raining!  :)

Sorry about your umbrella! Your new one is cute though! Thanks for sharing. :)
