I've found white vinegar readily available here. But then again so is buttermilk, so you don't really need the vinegar.

White vinegar is readily available, the question is, whether you can get plain distilled white vinegar or just the spiced version (the common form). I don't want essence of pickling spices in my baked goods!

I rarely buy those tiny cartons of cultured buttermilk due to the cost; it blows the budget for many recipes and it isn't particularly good buttermilk IMHO.
