We sailed our home down the Thames on Monday...
« on: April 25, 2012, 12:45:12 PM »
Some of you know that I live on a big barge on the Thames, and I thought you might be interested to see some of my photos from Monday's journey to our drydock in Kent for regular maintenance.

We set off at 3:45am to ride the ebbing tide out to Grain, then rode the flood tide back up the Medway to our destination. As our yard's slipway can only be entered (or left) on the spring tides, we were at the mercy of the tide table rather than convenient human hours!

My husband took the wheel for most of the journey, with our skipper offering advice and speaking to VTS where needed, so I was mostly left to tea and photo duties.

Fingers crossed that Friday's survey goes well, but initial looks at the hull seem to be favourable, which is a big relief!

(We're staying on a neighbour's boat in our moorings until we're back - it's a strange "home but not home" existence!)

Very cool.   ;D  Mr O and I always romanticize about a houseboat, but we know they are a load of work.  This is one of those things people don't think about, but I am so glad it went well for you guys.

I'm surprised the boat has a working engine and a real wheel for steering!
After all it is almost a static vessel.
Thank you fro sharing the photos.
