I have lived here for X and I have finally figured out:
(To go along with Mrs R's other fun thread)

Things that have taken you ages to finally 'get' in the UK

I have lived here for 4.5 years and I have finally figured out:

Yorkshire puddings (how to make the perfect one!)

Argos

HMRC self assessment tax form!

I've never gotten food on my underpants!
Work permit (2007) to British Citizen (2014)

Driving.  It has almost been two years now so soon I can drive without freaking out about going two miles over the speed limit.   :)

Crossing the Street. Oh, and the sh*t system of school admissions.

I am an awesome driver, and my car has the dents to show for it. Seriously though, I have never hit anything moving, I only hit stationary items (and not envelopes) ARF!

I have been here 60 days and I have finally mastered how to pronounce my bus stop, so the driver won't stare at me with a puzzled expression and ask me to repeat myself.  :)

I have also figured out how to put the duvet back in the duvet cover without DF's help.

Well done you on the bus stop!!

I'm jealous you can put the duvet cover on, I struggle for hours every time I change mine.  So that one is going on my other list of things I have trouble with!  :P

I have a duvet cover in the US because I like down comforters but they shouldn't be washed very often. Basically, I have to crawl into the cover every time I put it on and deposit the corners of the comforter into the corners of the cover. And then shake it out a lot when I've crawled back out. Does that make sense?

Yes! I just used this same strategy not 4 hours ago. :)

Oh the duvet cover battle! I mastered this fairly early on, because I first learned how to do it at a hostel in Nuremburg. It works a treat!

I turn the cover inside-out, put my hands all the way to the end corners so that the rest of the cover is bunched up over my arms. Then, I take those corners of the cover and grab 2 corners of the duvet, thus immediately depositing the corners of the duvet to the corners of the cover.

I then shuffle the cover off my arms and shake as much of it as I can onto the duvet. I let go of the corners, put the duvet down, and then pull the cover down to fit over the rest of the duvet. A little shake here, a little shake there, and voila! Takes about 2 minutes!  :)

I have been told that I am weird for doing it this way, but if there is anything I know of the Germans, they are efficient, so I trusted their methods!  ;D

This is how I do it as well!

This is how I do it as well!
That is how a girl from N. Ireland showed me how to do it and I picked that skill up right away, all ready for moving over to the UK.

I've been here 5 years and finally can now interpret the written bus schedules (paper and online ones).

I've had duvets for over 40 years in 3 countries and I have never used that method! You just do the far corners first, then shake it down and it all fall into place. Presto!

I worked in a youth hostel in Scotland and had to change about 100 duvets a day.  Inside out corners and shaking down all the way! :D

LOL...I finally figured out I was spending too much money on the bus! Only because the very nice driver told me I could save £2.00 by buying a "day rover". I felt like an idiot but how was I to know? I simply got on and said where I wanted to go and paid for a single  ::) Then got back on to come home and paid the same!

I have finally figured out how to steer the trolley at the store and how to enter the spinning door at Morrisons without making it stop :)

See I attempt to do the duvet cover this way, but I still can't get my duvet to be straight inside unless I shake forever.   I can't stand messy sheets and blankets and lumps (I am one of those folks who makes their bed every day  :P) - so it drives me nuts!

I may need to try the crawling method.
