I've had luck the last few times with cheapoair.com I've checked all the other sites and cheapo always seems to beat them. You have to watch the flights though...one flight I looked at was fantastic but had a 12 hour overnight layover in Heathrow! Then of course you have the ones that have an airport change, ie...you land at Gatwick and take off from Heathrow ???

I had a flight like that once (land in Gatwick, leave from Heathrow) and it was no big deal, really. It was cheap! I got the Gatwick Express in and the Heathrow Express back out!

I think maybe kbeech was referring to having to connect in London and change airports within a few hours. Although I could be wrong but I've definitely seen flights that require that. I can imagine that that would be kind of a huge hassle!

Oh yes...most definitely. But then again, most tickets are now a days unless you pay the higher fares.

Oh really? That's awful!  :( I didn't know that..

Yeah its not bad if you're leaving the country that way...but if you're coming into the country and have to go through immigration and then get to the other airport with just a few hours...too much pressure for me. And its ok, as long as you realize that is what is happening. I once checked a person in for a flight in Manchester NH going to Europe and they didn't realize when they booked the ticket through some website that they were flying into LGA and leaving from JFK to go to Europe and they would need to get their bag and recheck it and find a way from LGA to JFK in their time frame for the connecting flight. Some people just don't read the details, they just see the price and grab it.

Ugh! There is NO good way to get from LGA to JFK except by a cab. And that probably eats up all the savings from the ticket!

I try to avoid LGA and JFK in the first instance. I can't imagine having utilize both in the same leg! Nightmare!

Does anyone one know which airlines flies from the US and into Bristol. Where do they leave from in the US. ( let me guess Newark?)

Hiya,

I always use Farecompare, kayak and Travelzoo Supersearch.  With Farecompare you can set up alerts for when prices change.  As far as trying to find low fares, the prices are lower between Mid January and mid May as well as Mid September to about the November time.  I hope this helps!

Definitely check out airfarewatchdog.com or their co.uk website.  they have a ton of good tips for getting the best deals and if you sign up for their alert emails they will let you know about good fares (which are not usually advertised by the airlines or found on travel search engines).

That being said I generally go for the only direct flight out of my parent's local airport... traveling with a baby makes the extra fees worth it!  But I have a credit card with the airline and earn mileage.  my mom has the same one and charges everything on it then pays it off monthly.  she gets enough mileage for a free trip to visit us in the offseason that way!

Skyscanner.net has worked great for us - the app is pretty decent as well. You can set departure/arrival cities or airports, and the map will actually show you nearby airports and likely fares as well.  They also have a pretty neat bar graph that will show relative cost differences each day over a week or two, which makes it much easier to see if flying on a Tuesday or Saturday would be better.
