Heinz 57 Sauce
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:59:48 PM »
Just been to Asda and found Heinz 57 Sauce on the shelves. Its in a small squeezey bottle in the Mayo section. There was also an Asda's own brand Ranch Sauce for Subs but didnt feel brave enough to try that. They were both prcied at £1.00 so not too bad if it is dire...

Both HP and Heinz 57 contain tamarind, which accounts for much of the similarity in taste. There's enough difference for me to want both. I love Heinz 57 as an alternative to sugary-tasting ketchup.

Thanks for the heads-up - if I finally see an Asda on my travels, I will check. I think the nearest Asda is in Stoke, and I wouldn't make a special trip even for Heinz 57!

I'll have to remember that as a potential substitute for hubby's brown sauce when we're back in the States. In the past, we used Country Bob's, because that was the closest he was finding. I never thought about Heinz 57.

Dh also likes A1 the one thing Dh did say about it though it was a bit runnier than HP sauce but would do in a pinch.;)  :)

That's what I think about A1, I did get strange looks once in a diner for asking for some A1 sauce for my bacon and egg breakfast!

Dh got the same response when he asked for A1 sauce when we had bacon sandwiches one time when we were at my sisters house. I said it's an English thing they all just looked at him while he ate his sandwich with such disgust an I said its no different than some of the stuff we do here in the States. ;)  :) my 4th sister & I use Miracle Whip when we eat hotdogs our other sisters look at us like we were weird lol. ::)  :P
