We're moving back to the States soon and have a good mattress set (and a fairly worn out couch) we need to shift. Other items haven't posed a problem to shift, but UK charities won't take fabric items that don't have a fire tag, and our items came with us from the States so they don't have the UK tags.
So, can I even eBay these items if they don't have the tags? Or post them on freecycle? I may have the council come collect them for a small fee through their "bulky waste" service, but we live in flats and would have to put them in the bin storage room to wait for collection. They might block off a bin (but there are several in there), and the property managment agency could fine us or something. It takes 3 days for the council to collect something once you call. I prefer the council option if it wouldn't get me in trouble with property management, as I feel a bit weird having strangers come into my home if I give away the items. And they usually come an hour or two late, which is pretty inconvenient, especially when we have so much to do for the move. I've got furniture items on ebay now (non-fabric goods), and I'm not really looking forward to collections as it is.
The last option is to hire a "junk collectors" service, which will cost 110 pounds to haul away a sofa and mattresses! Yikes! Any ideas?
