UK Women's Online Clothing Retailers
« on: June 12, 2012, 07:49:13 AM »
I am moving to the Channel Islands (Guernsey) in July and was wondering what were some good online women's clothing retailers in the UK. I am in my late twenties and am a teacher, so I'm really not interested in too short or too tight (i.e. Top Shop) but still want to look young and feminine. Are there any stores you know of that are similar to Old Navy, Ann Taylor, The Limited, etc. that are in a relatively low price range? Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

I'm not sure what's available in Guernsey/for shipping to Guernsey, but I'm in my late twenties too and some of the stores I like are:

- Debenhams (pretty much my favourite place to shop at the moment... they have various different ranges, plus 'Designers at Debenhams')
- Next
- Dorothy Perkins
- H&M (although I'm not sure if you can order online from H&M)

Unfortunately, there's no Old Navy here (such a shame), although I think they will do international shipping from the US now.

Yup. You can order from H&M both online and by post.

DW uses Marisota, they send a catalogue in mail but she orders online.

I shop at Dorothy Perkins online quite often.  It seems like there is always a voucher available and returns are super easy. They also show the clothes on a mannequin on the website, so you can get a pretty good idea of length and fit.

I'm in my late 20s *sob* and I am getting pretty much all my clothes at Oasis at the moment, they have good flash sales if you're on their email list and there's normally at least 20% off floating around. Their dresses and tops are very feminine (which is my style, sort of a geek twist on retro/vintage) and they use good fabrics for the most part. I am wearing a dip hem hummingbird dress over an  urban outfitters shirt to work today from oasis :)

I would say that if you're tall, things come up both short and a little small, so for instance I'm 5"8 and anything mini is micro, anything knee length is a couple of inches above. That may be because I'm short waisted and long legged though :) Also they do 90 minute delivery, which I am ashamed to say I've taken advantage of more than once :D

I do like Zara and Mango as well, although if you're busty you're struggle with Zara, and Mango's sizes are a total crapshoot as they do SML :/ but they have the most amazing knee length, long sleeved, heavy jersey dresses :) Dorothy perkins is also totally reliable, you can exchange in store which I really love.

I can't stand HM for anything but the most basic stuff, or fast fashion things that I'm going to wear a couple of times (a sequin blazer type thing).

I feel like I'm too young for banana republic for the most part, or at least I don't get their aesthetic, but I do have a couple of things from there, they seem to do totally unannounced "happy hours" where everything is 40% off really regularly, like pretty much every time I end up at Westfield during the week, which makes them much more affordable.

ASOS
Looking at their site, it looks like they consider Guernsey part of their UK shipping (which they use Hermes for) so you should be eligible for their free shipping/returns option as well

I came in here to say this! ASOS are pretty much the only place I buy ready-made clothes anymore. It's worth signing up for their newsletters as they have discount codes and free shipping promotions on a pretty regular basis, too.

I love their plus line (Curve), I have a few pieces from it and ALWAYS get complimented on them. Love it.

Last purchase I made before 2pm and was eligible for next day shipping. love them so.

Edit:
Can I jut say I love them? I sent back a return on Monday afternoon and they received it and money is back in my account today! (I paid via paypal). Love it!

If you are busty, http://www.bravissimo.com/pepperberry/ is a good bet. Not the cheapest clothes in the world, but cut for a curvier frame.

You should probably be aware that a lot, if not most, delivery services will charge extra for delivering to non-UK mainland (I am UK mainland and I keep getting hit with it and it's incredibly frustrating).  It's probably worth selecting an item and going through the check-out process short of actually paying to see what the actual shipping charges will be before getting to attached to ordering something. I've had delivery fees be double the price of the item I wanted and four times the quoted mainland UK price.  >:(

Asos actually does free international shipping and returns now, so it's definitely the place I'd use to do all of my shopping. They have the best selection of any site I've seen and have many of the high street shops, such as Oasis, Warehouse and Mango.

The fantastic thing about free shipping and returns, you can buy several sizes and try things on you're not sure about. Often with online shopping, you have to worry about paying to send things back and so you're cautious about what you buy, but you don't have to do that with Asos.

Also, they do free next-day shipping for orders over £100, so if you see something you like, you can be trying it on the next day!

Depending on where you live its free next day no mater how much you spend. My last purchase was £42 and I got it the next morning, even though I chose the supersaver option.
I'm in Sheffield and it appears they have a depot in Barnsley (or at least thats where my package said it was from)
