Any RPCVs out there?
« on: June 13, 2012, 11:20:59 AM »
I'm in London on a spouse visa and was wondering if there are any Returned Peace Corps Volunteers living in London or the UK in general.

I served in Albania 2008-2010. It'd be nice to meet up to chat with some other RPCVs as I've found myself missing my Peace Corps life a bit lately.

Hiya, I was in Kenya 2002-2004. I did the whole no electricity and running water gig most people think about but after meeting some PCVs in Armenia, even with modern conveniences their experiences were pretty intense!

:) I moved to London in 2005 and have been here ever since. Feel free to drop me a line.

I think most people who apply for Peace Corps expect the no running water, no electricity living situation. That was not what I ended up with. Albania, at least when I served, is definitely "Posh Corps." We had mobile phones, access to internet, running water. My main hardship was that we had water hours, so I could only shower and wash dishes etc. at certain times of the day. I was even able to get DSL internet in my flat about 9 months before I COS'd. It was still an incredibly challenging, fascinating, and rewarding experience.

I'll send you a PM when I have some more time. Nice to meet you, Olive!

Sorry to dredge up a thread from June. I just got here a couple weeks ago and have been hunting down RPCVs. I'm China 02-03, Romania 03-05, and HQ 05-07. They had trouble getting rid of me. :)

Hi,

I'm an RPCV from Mozambique 2007-2010. I am studying at UCL here in London. I've met one or two other RPCVs through school and we talk about how great it would be to get together. From the thread it seems like you may already be meeting up, is that the case? Can we crash?

Thanks,
Erica

Hey, not sure if anyone will read this..... ??

I am finishing up with PC in Mexico this month (April 2013) and already am set with a job in Lancaster starting in June. If anyone is out there, you should be able to see my email address in my profile & it would be cool to be in touch someday.

Cheers  ;)

Hey, I'm an RPCV from Costa Rica, returned in May. I'm headed to London in September. Would love to attend any get-togethers that might occur.

RPCV from Senegal 2007-09 currently living in Bicester, working in Northampton. Looks like there are a few of us, which makes me happy. Anyone fancy a drink? Looks like London is where most are located and an easy day trip for me :)

Hi everyone,

I served in Ukraine from 2003-2005, and have been in London for a year - I'll be starting a Master's program at UCL this month.  I know I'm very late to the game regarding this post, but I just found it when searching the web for RPCV groups in the UK and figured it couldn't hurt to reply.

If anyone already gets together I'd love to jump on, or perhaps arrange a new meet up at some point.  I'm always game for a good water/transport/lost in translation story exchange.

Best,
Megan

Hey there!
I finished Peace Corps last year in Zambia, and now I'm studying for my MSc in at the London School of Economics.  Are there groups of RPCVs that get together in London? Or other websites that are used to keep in contact?  Let me know if you have the opportunity :)

Hi there.  Senegal 1982-1984 and just about to start a 2 or 3 year job in London. I arrive later this month. Not sure how many Senegalese, or American RPCVs from Senegal there are in London.  Happy to get together in whatever way you have in mind.
