I need rotel!!!
« on: June 14, 2012, 09:44:28 PM »
I think this is a southern/texas thing, but I love rotel and I can't find it anywhere. I bought a few cases of it when I found it once at American Sweets online. But that has been years and they don't seem to carry it anymore. Salsas here are good, but this is a pico de gallo and for the life of me I can't recreate the taste. I was obsessed with it at home.

Any ideas of where I can find it?

Ro-tel is a brand of chopped tomatoes with green chilies added.

No, I don't think you can find it in the UK other than from shops like you mentioned. Have you tried Lupe Pinto?

It is a Midwest thing too.  We had to have some shipped over from family in the States.  Have yet to find it here yet.  Lupe Pinto may be close but obviously not Rotel brand.  That is probably the one major thing we have not found a replacement for.

I've been cooking Mexican, Tex-Mex, Cali-Mex, Norteno, etc all my life and have never ever used Rotel or anything like it!  I must just be using different recipes or something!

As annoying as it may be, many of us long-timers in the UK advise newcomers to 'make your own' in a lot of cases... Maybe one day you could make a big batch and freeze it in small containers for future use?
