In a panic
« on: June 15, 2012, 03:07:08 PM »
This is the first time that a crisis has arisen back home while I am in England.

I got a call a few hours ago from my father. He got a call at 2 a.m. EST from paramedics that my brother (who is a limo driver in Atlantic City) was on his way to the hospital.  They said that Eddie was driving (limo was empty) and felt a horrible pain in his "side". He pulled the limo over and got out to stretch and take a few deep breaths, but passed out from the pain. He lay there, on the side of the road (which breaks my heart) for a bit until he wakes up. He got up, passed out again and wet himself. Luckily, a passerby stopped and called 911.  He hit his head very hard. That's all my dad knows at the moment. He and my mom were leaving their house in PA to drive to the hospital in New Jersey.

I am frantic and can do absolutely nothing but wait for another phone call.  I can't even go home as I submitted my passport for my FLR(M) in February, for Christ's sake, and still haven't gotten my new visa.

I have no idea what is wrong with him and am very worried. Eddie and I are very close and always have been. We were born just 10.5 months apart and think like twins.  I'm just very upset now and trying to pass the time by cleaning.  ::)

He is in good (not perfect) health. He is 44 and works out every day since he sits all the time for his job.  I just don't know what to do.

Aww, thanks everyone for all your good wishes and hugs. Many hugs back.

I just spoke to my brother's girlfriend. She said he flatlined in the ambulance, so they have him in the cardiac wing to monitor his heart (which has returned to normal). He has a cyst on his kidney and a concussion. They are still waiting for the results of more tests.

She also said he is being very rude and belligerent to everyone, including her. She is afraid there is something else going on in his head that is making him so incredibly irritable and yelling at everyone.

That's all I know for now. Thank you again for all your sweet words.

I hope you and your family have some answers soon.

My husband has a kidney disease.  Kidneys can affect the blood pressure.  If your brother's blood pressure sky-rocketed, he could have had seizures which would temporarily cause this disorientation and personality change.  The fact that you say your brother "wet himself" makes me think he had a grand mal seizure.

The condition is called PRES.  It happened to my husband a few weeks ago.

Thank you everyone for all the wonderful support. It really made me feel a lot better.

Rebeccajo:  Thank you for this information. I will definitely pass it on to my brother.  They released him late yesterday, despite not be able to determine what caused the incident. He had every test they could think of. They said all his vitals were perfect, which I assume included his BP. However, I will still pass this info on to him. He is supposed to go back to the hospital on Wednesday for a follow up.
