And remember that test times are sometimes hard to come by.  I had to schedule mine six weeks in advance and that is apparently the norm in this area (could be different where you are). I would suggest scheduling a test as soon as your have your provisional license back. You can always cancel it if you arent ready, but at least you will have a place reserved.

Have you already started lessons with your FIL or is he saying you have to wait until you have your provisional?  I took a few lessons before I even had mine, so maybe you can do that while you wait for it to be processed.

I had one lesson with my FIL when I first moved here but have been driving regularly on my own all day, every day since March because of my job. My FIL is just a massive ball buster and feels like he needs to be in control of everyone's life. All I need from him is to take me around the test routes a few times and help me perfect my parallel parking. I have my provisional application all filled out, I just need to find time to pop into the post office to send it in! Will do that tomorrow morning, most likely :) Apparently there is currently a 4 week waiting period here in Pembrokeshire but my FIL told me to ask to be put on a cancellation list, so if anyone cancels, they'll call me in to test earlier.

Fingers crossed!

Four weeks isn't bad at all. Will you take your test in Pembroke Dock? That's where I did mine and it was easy! Well, when I say "easy" I mean easy compared with other places I've heard about. It's relatively quiet with fairly simple road layouts and there's not much traffic. If you have some lessons, your instructor will have you drive around any possible routes that the examiner will use. Good luck!

Also, if you're stuck for a test date, consider phoning some of the 'fast pass' driving schools.  I think I used Fasttrack-drivingschool.co.uk, though it might have been one of the others.  All I recall is that the lady who booked everything for me was called Lorraine.  Anyhow, she was great about being able to find quick test dates.  I had a test booked 2 weeks after I phoned.

Awesome! Thanks so much for that suggestion! Will definitely check them out!

Also, yeah, I'll be testing in Pembroke Dock. My FIL is going to take me out for a few hours next week to drive around the test routes. I just want to get this sh*t over with :(
