school uniforms advice

For those of you who have daughters in UK primary schools, how many of each uniform piece did you get? Jean starts reception in September.  We have half a dozen polos and two pinafore dresses. Thinking of getting two cardigans and a bunch of socks and tights. Do you think two dresses and two cardigans is enough?

If you aren't sure, I would pick up another one, just for a back up extra. I found that it wasn't always easy to find school uniform clothes all year long. I am glad that my son goes to a non-uniform school now!

When my two girls (currently years 3 and 6) were in Reception I went for 6 shirts(combination of blouses and polos), one pinafore, one skirt, and one pair of trousers. They also had two cardigans, knee highs, ankle socks, and a ton of tights.  Tights seem to run quite small and the quality varies a lot!  I've had the best luck with tights from John Lewis.  
For the summer I went with 5 summer dresses.  
When they were little I always looked for clothing that was easy to take on/off. In other words as few buttons as possible.  
Take plenty of pictures on her first day because they grow up so fast!  
 

It sounds as if you have about the same amount of stuff I got my little one for nursery, and I've been fine.  If not, it's easy enough to pick something up later usually if there are some big stores around you.  One trick I've done is that since my little one is still in nursery and not as confident in taking herself to the toilet yet, I didn't buy her any tights yet--stuck to ankle and knee socks.  I don't know how old your kids are, so this may not apply.  I just realised you didn't have any skirts.  We had one pinafore and two skirts, but we haven't really used one of the skirts as it's pretty bit on my little one still (who has a very tiny waist).

Forgot she has a skirt as well that a friend gave us. So not including summer stuff she's got two dressess, one skirt, half dozen polos. Will be getting at least two cardigans plus socks and tights. Does that sound enough?

She's pretty good with independent toileting now and can handle tights so I'm not worried about that.  She doesn't really tend to like trousers, prefers leggings but they aren't in uniform so it's skirts and dresses.

My kids are in private schools and the uniforms are about £500 a piece.  We have one of everything, apart from shirts where we have three.

I wasn't going to buy more than one skirt at £45 a piece

yikes! The school logo cardigans for Jean's are like £11 so much cheaper.
