Question about vision test for UK drivers License
« on: September 28, 2004, 03:36:22 PM »

Hey yoo guys...

Forgot to ask you guys about the vision test...

Is it administerd at the DVLA office or do you need to go to an eye doctor for a more official testing..if one needs to see an eye doctor, how much will it cost ?

I have no vision restrictions on my US License but wanted to know before hand if the vision test will be something extra i have to pay for.

Also, if anyone has no use for their old " Driving in UK Kit " and would consider selling please drop me a line.

thanks heaps
Karina

They didn't make me have a vision test.  Instead, they did a very basic field test of reading a license plate at x amount of distance.  Sorry, I can't remember the exact distance.

It's 20.5 metres (67 feet, or 5 car lengths). They always do the field test, it should be the first thing they do when you step out of the testing centre before you even get in a car.

Maybe worth mentioning that the letters and nunbers on UK numberplates are quite large - and if you normally wear glasses you can wear them for the test. In short, if that aspect of the test gives you a problem..........

As far as I am aware, that IS the vision test.
