Even if metal screws are not required, I would be really careful about what crate you choose.  Most of the issues that seem to happen with pets travelling by plane occur because of crates that are not good enough or come apart.

The ones we used that I linked to had plastic tops on the screws but the screws themselves are metal, so the airline had no problem with them.

You want to make sure that whatever you use, it follows these guidelines:

We used vari kennels.  Totally approved.  Just make sure it's big enough.

I exchanged mine for some with screws (4th and hopefully final exchange!).  You never know when rules may change.

By the way, what all do you put on the carriers?  I got the live animal stickers and was going to put a picture of the pet on the carrier as well as contact information.  Anything I am missing?  thanks!

For our dogs we put a ziplock bag with some food, and after they got put in and secured also used one for their collar and leash (as they can't have it on during the flights )and maybe a paper with their name, owner, address, number etc as they can't have it on during the flights.  As far as paperwork they airline used an envelope and put some shipping paperwork in and we put the defra stuff in it.  The ARC here in Manchester wasn't too fussy if it was the official paperwork or not as long as they could see it before you picked the animal up. In all the times we've flown the airline has used their own stickers (lots of them).
