Aloha from Scotland!
« on: July 15, 2012, 12:29:38 PM »
As the title suggests, I'm originally from Hawaii and now live in Dumfries, Scotland.  My partner and I spent a year working in New Zealand and got a civil union there.   I had a hiccup with the Visa process and am here to share my story with others in the same situation.

We are also currently in the process of moving to Edinburgh and are finding it quite difficult to find a nice area... which is another reason I'm here.

All in all, I look forward to browsing the forums and making new friends  ;D

Welcome Kawibear! Edinburgh has loads of nice areas. Morningside, Bruntsfield, Stockbridge, Comely Bank, Merchiston, Trinity and the West End immediately spring to mind. Parts of Leith, Granton, Gorgie, Corstorphine, Portobello and Liberton are nice too. Avoid places like Niddrie, Sighthill, Pilton, Gracemount and Wester Hailes. Best of luck!

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Welcome. Yes, Edinburgh is a lovely city with beautiful spaces. I lived in New Town just up from Stockbridge, and Old Town is also cool. Plus all the places DrS listed.

Welcome to Scotland.  It is a beautiful country!  Our family moved over from the Midwest in February.  You will enjoy it!
