US grill/bbq conversion
« on: July 18, 2012, 06:50:02 PM »
We are thinking of taking our grill with us when we move to the UK.  I've read on other posts here that we can't take propane and that we can get a conversion kit for the gas hookup.  Does anyone know how much it costs to buy the conversion kit or to have someone do the conversion for you?

Thanks

I'm interested in this too so will be following your post.  We brought our Webber Q with us to the UK and I didn't think it would be a big deal because I knew they sold them here already.  Even though we can get by with the smaller propane tanks that welders use I was curious if there was a conversion since the other gas seemed cheaper (i think I paid 15GBP for the 1 normal size blue tank I bought)

All you need is a regulator like this:

or the whole kit like this:

The large patio gas cylinders are roughly equivalent to the typical propane cylinders used in the US. You pay a deposit, plus cost of the gas, but my supplier delivers the exchange  bottle. A large one is about £26 plus the initial deposit, which I think was about £30.

Bring your grill - the US grills are FAR better than anything available here, IMHO, plus tons cheaper. We regret not buying a new one to stuff in the container before we moved, and we should have known better, as we brought a new grill to the UK in 1993 during the first move, and it was still going strong in 2000 when we gave it to DH's brother prior to the move back to the states.

with the weather and all my BBQ has turned into a sort of meso cambrian mini biosphere.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Lol!  Too funny sonofasailor!

We left our grill at home.  Most likely just buy a little charcoal one here.  Weather has been beautiful since we've been here.  Only rained once or twice!!  8)
