We're watching it too. It's been really good. Slightly ashamed at the number of countries I've never heard of!  :o

I loved it! Danny Boyle knocked it out of the park. Love the industrial revolution bit, adored the children's lit/NHS/internet! section, and my word does David Beckham look sharp while casually hanging out in a speedboat.
I also love the "flame" and the handing off of the honour of lighting it to the next generation of athletes. And Rowan Atkinson/Kenneth Branagh/JK Rowling. And the day started off with Boris being his usual hilarious self, so I'm feeling quite cheerful about this entire thing.

I watched it out on our moorings' outdoor cinema next to Tower Bridge and EVERYONE there loved it, too (and we're a very cynical lot!). When the fireworks went off on Tower Bridge and David Beckham’s neon speedboat holding the torch raced by, we were right there. And we saw all that 30 minutes before anyone else in the world, since there was a big delay before that part was on tv!

We’d also witnessed the helicopter flying through Tower Bridge a few weeks back – a bunch of neighbours gathered on one of the barges to cheer on the two helipcopters and make a night of it. At the time, the rumour was that it was for a Bond film, but we had no idea how close that would end up becoming!!

I'm finally feeling a bit better so I went for a run this morning in my Team GB vest and we took some photos afterwards. Yep, this is where I live. :)

I loved the opening ceremony.  Very, very cool.  I did sort of wonder how well it translated, though.  Some bits (like the NHS/kids' lit section) I felt were very much produced for a British, or at least a Western, audience.  But other bits, like the Mr. Bean/Chariots of Fire section, were, I'm sure, very universal.

I loved the Opening Ceremony!  So British and so fun!  I'm generally not a big sports spectator but I always look forward to watching the Olympics.  :D

SP, you are so lucky! :)

We have tickets for Beach Volleyball semi finals and for Rhythmic Gymnastics.

Anyone else going and what are you seeing?

I thought the opening ceremony was good, too.  I was worried it'd skew a little too much toward the cheesiness of the Eurovision Song Contest, but happily it didn't.  Having the Queen in it was very cool.

Anyone else going and what are you seeing?

We're going to see GB v France and USA v Czech Republic in women's basketball, and the gold medal match of women's football - hopefully the US women will be in that one and retain their title.   :)

As an aside, I hate the official Olympic ticketing website with the white-hot passion of a thousand suns.  Over the last month or so, I've been periodically (my wife would say "obsessively") checking the site to see what's available.  The list of what's available has been constantly in flux, I assume as they finalized seating arrangements and people sold their tix back.

Every single time the site has showed tickets available for an event and I've gone through the 3 or 4 steps to get to the "request these tickets for purchase" step, I get a final message saying "Sorry, the tickets you requested are no longer available."  Every.  Single.  Time.  It's beyond annoying.

I agree about the ticketing site! Although I've only checked availability, it really would work better if you could browse available tickets rather than have to slog through each and every event type/date (most of which are NOT available). Surely in 2012 they could host a site with this very basic search capacity?  >:(

I agree, and I'd add the capability to filter by ticket price.  I'm glad there are £425 tickets available for the women's 10m platform diving, but that information is irrelevant to me.
