Burnt soup! Help!
« on: August 03, 2012, 03:52:05 PM »
I'm a really good cook. Honestly I am. But since coming here, it seems like I can't cook. Celsius temps, different cookware, liters and mls, different measuring cups, I'm just lost sometimes.  I can't get my groove back in the kitchen!

Today I made a huge pot of veggie soup, something I've done a hundred times at least. I burnt the bottom of it. I have never done that before. I scooped all the top into a different pot, but it still has a slightly burnt taste.

Is there anything I can do?  I am so pissed. I was really looking forward to it, and I put in a hell of a lot of veg. It also has rice, and is tomato based. Any suggestions??  Dinner is in 1 1/2 hours. :(

Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do once soup has been burned.

I've heard that adding curry powder can disguise the taste, and it sounds like the kind of soup that would be able to become curry-vegetable soup without getting icky, but I have never actually tried this myself.

Let us know what you do/how it works!

Curry powder or cinnamon and cumin can mask burnt flavours.

Next time, don't sir and taste the soup. If it tastes fine ladle it out that way the smoky flavour doesn't get mixed in with the edible bit. :)

Hey thanks all, I appreciate the suggestions. I think it's beyond saving.  I'm upset but my husband is laughing and offered to take me out to dinner. What's a gal to do?

Going to go get dressed! :D

Powerful statement...explains so much...

Ahhhh, it was nice. I had to come home and scrape all the burnt stuff into the trashbin, but it was a lot easier to do on a full tummy from a nice meal out. :)
