another silly question this time about tution fees
« on: August 04, 2012, 05:55:45 PM »
Okay so I know the cost of my school is 15000 pounds per year. What I am trying to figure out is if England charges tution like the US. Since I am starting in Jan. Would I only have to pay 7000 pounds? I know some European countries will charge you the full year payment regardless if you actually studied the whole time or not.

For Americans they usually allow tuition to be spread out into three payments. This is especially the case if you're using loans to pay your tuition.

thanks for the info but that's not what i meant exactly. i am just trying to figure out if they will only charge me for that one semester like i would be here, or would i be charged for the full year. I was reading an article the other day that some places do that.

You'll have to check with the university you will be studying at, but if you are starting in January, I'm pretty sure they can't make you pay for the time you haven't been there.

You're doing a PhD, right? PhDs generally work a bit differently in that you could can start them at different times of the year (most likely because most PhDs in the UK are purely research-based and don't require you to take classes), so I would imagine you will be charged tuition from the date you enroll at the university.
