May be silly question but thought I'd ask.  Any reason you know of that Appendix 2 can't be typed in? i.e. via computer.  Much easier and certainly much clearer to read but they seem to imply ink pen because of the "You may use blue or black ink."  Thanks for all the help!  Very much appreciated as always. Biometrics is tomorrow then it all goes in via Priority Settlement Service.  :)

Well, I suppose you could in theory, but good luck trying to type anything into the form or trying to put a tick into any of the boxes... it's a non-editable PDF file and won't let you do it.

It actually easy if you have Adobe Acrobat (the full-loaded version of Reader). You can put text boxes over the PDF and type in what you want -- just like a typewriter onscreen. I just wasn't sure if the UKBA would accept this or if they really want you to fill it in with an ink pen. My handwriting isn't the best. ;)

Honestly, I've never heard of anyone trying it, so I don't know what would happen if you did.

However, if it says fill it out in black or blue pen, then they are expecting it to be in pen, and you should fill it out in that way.

You don't want to risk your application being rejected just because you didn't fill out the form correctly :S. It's a hell of a lot of money to lose over a  little thing like that, especially when there are more important things to be thinking about - like making sure that all of your documents are in order and contain all of the required information.

I hear you loud and clear. :)  That was my biggest concern was that they'd frown upon it -- even though it'd be much easier for them to read. ;)  Ink pen it is!  Thanks for your input!

Finally got my first email today (Monday 05 Feb 13) about the application being received.  Was getting worried that it was lost, but knew from FedEx that it had been delivered to New York last Wednesday (30 Jan 13).

Email says it has been received at the visa processing centre in Sheffield, UK.  Is it really in the UK?  I thought it was all done by the British Consulate in NYC?

Yes, it is in the UK.

As of December 21st 2012, all settlement visa applications sent to the NYC consulate are being transferred to Sheffield for processing. This only applies to settlement visas (fiance/spousal/other family) though - all other types of application are still being processed in NYC.

This is probably the reason for it taking a few days for you to get your first email.

Thank you!  Once that first email came this morning saying it was in the UK, it made better sense about them taking so long to notify me that it had be received. It just confused me a bit since I was thinking NYC did the processing. Hopefully the processing won't take too long now that they have it.  I paid for the Settlement Priority Service so we shall see.  As always, thanks for all your guidance!  Truly invaluable. :)

Any ideas on current Sheffield processing times? Received my email saying Sheffield has on Feb 05 and today is day 15 (business days) and still no reply. Paid for priority but hard to locate anything that talks about Sheffield times for priority settlement apps. Thanks!

That's because there aren't any processing times available yet.

You guys who sent your applications in Jan/Feb are basically the first people to have your visas processed through Sheffield, so as I said on another thread, you're kind of the 'guinea pigs' for the new process and your experiences will help us to figure out average processing times for future applications.

I think I've only seen one fiance/spousal visa approval from Sheffield here on UK-Y so far... I believe they got the 'received application' email on Jan 25th and then they received their visa in the mail on Feb 7th.

Just to add that UKBA have now updated the visa processing times for applications decided during January 2013

Settlement visas (this may or may not include applications transferred to Sheffield, as the decisions made may have been on applications lodged before they began processing through Sheffield):

Settlement Visas (working days)
2 days    1%
3 days    5%
5 days    5%
10 days    18%
15 days    25%
40 days    55%
60 days    97%
90 days    100%
Total decisions made:   80

Was afraid of that. And guinea pig is good analogy. Feel like I'm on that little exercise wheel going nowhere. :) I had also been wondering if I'll even receive the approval email. Thinking they may just send visa and not notify me by email about it. Any idea if the person, you just referred to, who received their visa on Feb 7 received the approval email? Thanks!

I think they received a 'decision has been made' email rather than a 'your visa has been approved' email.   :-\\\\

Moving on now to the FLR(M) and thus more questions. When does this get easier?! ;)

I've completed most of the form because it's pretty much all the same info as the Proposed Fiance/CP but some of it is new and therefore confusing.

Under Cash Savings for financials (7.3E):

Section (v) '...please state in what form these funds are held' which is same as old but they add 'and provide full details below.' Other than the state the funds are held, what more 'full details' are they asking for?

Section (viii) and (ix) They're asking for
1) Amount in the account £,
2) Amount in the account for the last 6 months and
3) ...at the date of the application? Could they get more ambiguous?
On the last application I only needed to be concerned about the amounts on the date of the application but this is different. Any insight here on the difference between these numbers would be greatly appreciated. :)

For ties you have with country you were born, family, friends and other connections. Not clear what they're asking under "Social cultural or family ties."

Finally, 'What type of ceremony was your wedding/civil partnership?' As it isn't for a few weeks, and I realize I'm trying to be ahead of the game here, I thought wedding or civil partner ceremony were the 'types.' Is there some other description they're looking for?

As always, thanks!  The people and the information I received here for the first visa was beyond invaluable, helpful and truly appreciated!

Just write if you have family in your home country.  I'm not sure if you should include if you've got a house or property, as well..... but it can't hurt.....

Specify whether you're having a register office wedding, getting married in the Church of England, having an Islamic wedding, a Sikh wedding....... I had a register office wedding and I wrote just that: register office wedding.  :)
