We were going to the meetups, but I don't believe the meetups are still going on due to the original organizer being unable to continue them, and nobody else was able to or wanted to pick up the reins. That said, my (English) husband and I live in Salisbury - 30 minutes away or so - and we'd be keen to meet up with anyone else in the area. (:
Well maybe we should hold another =)
Ive never been to Salisbury either and Im dying for some interaction with some Americans. Says youre from Austin, closest Ive been to you was Amarillo when I visited my parents for 3 weeks (they lived there for a year). But didnt see much of Texas b/c it was like 110 degrees the whole time, well during the day, then the most biggest lightnig storms at dusk. As far as Austin, apart from watching Austin City Limits on PBS, Ive never been, although Ive seen Austin compared to Portland Or a few times as far as hip youthfulness.
But itd also be cool to get a bit of a get-toggether again, maybe not a formal schedule. Ive never arranged something like this before but I have the time I suppose. So were the meetups like? Were they in a restaurant or at someone's house or other? Any ideas?
It's just me, guess that's why Id like to find some other ex-pat experiences. Wife is still working in the US for a couple more months. I have zero social life at the moment lol. Going to the gym is about it and being social at my job at the hospital. But Im still a newbie here, I cant believe how many times I have to ask someone to repeat themselves. I havent gotten my ear tuned towards the accent more problematic is some of the expressions people use.
I really do love being here though, I was getting really bored with the US.
My wife moved from Australia 2.5 years ago and I wish I had the enthusiasm to explore and visit places like I do now in the UK. For hersake I mean.
Everything is fresh and new, overwhelming at several times but still a change for the best.
Funny how many Brits say they want to go to the US. I think they want change as much as I did.
I was an accidental move. Got my Irish passport, flew to Dublin, called up a medical recruitment place to see how long itd take to get papers in order to work in the UK in like 6 months. Took a Sail-rail from Dublin to London in December and got hired on the spot on a Wednesday, went back to Dublin and that friday. They called and said "Can you start work in Southampton on Monday?".
Been here ever since with a laptop, ipad, 2 suitcases of clothes- been . Got a car a few weeks ago. Its been a dizzying experience
