I think Hong kong style Kung Pao is similar to General Tso's chicken, if you're ordering it. HKKP is at least fried in a sticky-sweet sauce.

I'm not a fan of either so I may not be a good judge of this, but they seem similar to me. There's a recipe for sesame chicken here - http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/7185/flawless-sesame-chicken--american-restaurant-style-.aspx

Coffee wise it depends on where you're going, if you really want filter coffee, Starbucks does it and they normally have two roasts on, always ask for the one that's not Pike's Place as it's over roasted and bitter :) We have an aeropress at home which makes good coffee easily/fast :)

Heh. Pike's Place is the only one I like (well, and the new Blonde roast they offer.. not sure if you have that in the UK yet) because it's NOT burnt! Glad to know SB do have regular brewed coffee if I'm desperate. :)

We have a filter (drip) coffee machine, saw one in Asda for about £15!
But I don't understand the problem with coffee with no flavouring, where are you going that puts flavouring in it?

Ranch dressing - seen Newmans in Morrison's, Tesco and Asda, and I think Carlini's does one or is that just the Caeser dressing they do?

Chinese.....well neither US or UK are authentic Chinese, they've been mde to the tastes of that country, but DW never has a problem getting something she likes.

I thought you were from Massachusetts?  We always had vinegar on our fish and chips growing up in MA!!  I never realised it was a New England/British thing until I moved to other parts of the US.

Eh? When I was growing up in MA there was no fish and chips as such. It was all about fried clams and French fries! (The Dark Ages, I realize  ;))

I love fried clams! Onion rings at those places are usually amazing as well.  :)

Heheheh the background picture on my phone is a clam roll, fries, coleslaw, lemon wedge and tartar sauce, taken last summer in MA.    Oh it makes me smile (and hungry) everytime I see it!   ;D ;D  (but malt vinegar tastes amazing on that as well, heheh)

Geesh! Y'all are making me crave some proper chips and vinegar. My favorite recent discovery is the veggie "fish" and chips they have at some pubs. Mmmmmmmmmm.

No, they use slices (thick like fish size) of halloumi cheese. It is AMAZING and it goes perfectly with lemon and tartar sauce, just like fish! It sort of "flakes" like fish, too. It is definitely my new favorite food in the UK (at least in pubs. :P)

It is!! I know the Taylor Walker pubs usually carry it, as well as that other one that is chain. Nicholas? Nicholson? I forget! The ones with the black menus. :P

I guess I know what my first meal in England is going to be once I make it over there next month!!

Nicholson's, yeah.  Go figure!  I hadn't noticed it there, but I'll have to remember to keep an eye out next time, because now I'm curious.  :p

5. I NEED RANCH DRESSING!

Hi there! I've just returned home from the States and managed to stuff some packets of powdered ranch dressing into my suitcase! If you're comfortable with it, PM me your address and I'll send one your way to tide you over until you find some online!

Best Regards :)
