Ah, the curly ones! Now I remember them. There were some non-curly egg noodles of about that width in the deli this morning - they were from Italy. They're not curly, but I imagine the flavour would be the same.

Egg noodles are lighter and thinner than regular pasta noodles, too. I love the idea of checking the Polish grocer. We have loads of them nearby and I never thought of trying there!

ETA: Also, just thinking here... there's a Jewish neighborhood in north London (I forget where exactly). I bet they'd have some good Jewish grocery stores (as someone mentioned they were looking for up thread). I will have to do some research once I am there. :) I'm so glad someone posted this thread! I've been wanting egg noodles for a while now and had just about given up on finding them in the UK.

Lots of Jewish areas in North London. Hendon and Golders Green are the first that spring to mind.

Golders green was the one I was thinking of, I think. I've been through there on the bus and saw all the shops, but I was on my way somewhere so I didn't stop.

I found this quote online:

"Egg noodles are the central and eastern European cousin to pasta. The primary difference between noodles and pasta is that noodles use exclusively eggs (eggs are used in pasta dough in northern Italy, but not southern Italy, where people rely on dried pasta), and noodles are kneaded more to develop the gluten for a chewier product. Egg noodles are thicker, chewier and more substantial than Italian pasta...."

I grew up with egg noodles being used for various Hungarian dishes and there is def a subtle difference. Egg noodles are yummy!  :D

And I grew up with egg noodles in Eastern European dishes like kugel.  I also think the PA Dutch use egg noodles as well in their cooking.

You can get Fresh Egg Pasta fairly easily, which is really similar to Egg noodles I would think, the only thing I know of called "egg noodles" is the chinese type. Anyway, here's egg pasta (normal dried pasta is not made with Eggs just flour/water)

Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about.  You just can't really call it pasta.  To me pasta is Italian and this stuff is definitely not.

I know Waitrose carries egg noodles but they aren't like US wide short egg noddles. They're long and skinny. You can also find them in their Asian inspired sections.

All supermarkets that I've been in carry those.

I sent DH to the store a few months back for egg noodles......he came back with....Chinese noodles. I've seen some in Aldi during one of their ethnic food weeks, but aside from that, nada.
