Hi Lara,

Apparently some UK schools will accept U.S. federal loans.  As it was really hard to find, here is a link to University of Glasgow's guidance http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/registry/support/finance/federalloans/#tabs=1 on the subject.  Your school may have a similar policy; check with them.

Actually, many UK schools accept US federal loans, as this is how the majority of foreign students from the US pay for their studies in the UK, as they are not eligible for UK student loans. I believe the loan payments are distributed to the students via their UK school (I think the school must have a FASFA code in order for the loans to be approved).

There are a number of UK schools that award US Financial Aid, but the US DoE does not publish that list online. I've found a list that was compiled elsewhere, so I can't vouch for its accuracy but it's a starting point!

I also found this one online:

You can also call the US DoE to verify if your school is eligible. I have called them at 800-433-3243 and believe I just opted to speak to a rep. They told me they could look up FAFSA codes for me by school, and they were able to pull up a list of schools in the UK; however, when I asked if they could direct me to where I could access that list, or if they could even forward it to me, they told me they couldn't share that with the public ???. So basically only call if you have specific schools in mind you want to check.

Or you could just google it :) Here's the 2012/2013 FASFA school code list, if your school is eligible to accept US federal loans it will have a FASFA code and be on this list.

English ones are on page 148

Ahhh, I wish I had been able to find this months ago when I had googled it myself! I wonder why the DoE/Federal Student Aid Dept said they couldn't provide this exact info? ???  But thanks, this is very helpful - I am still looking at some different options for possibly going to uni there. :)
