Anyone recently use travel insurance?

Hi there, I dug through some old threads for a few years ago but wanted to see if anyone could recommended travel insurance for the US (mainly medical). Family and I are heading back to visit for an extended period of time upwards of a month to two months and I don't want to risk being there without medical insurance. Thanks in advance! 

We always have gotten travel insurance through our bank.  We had ours through Natwest for yonks and they were brilliant when DH had to use it (blown out knee, skiing).

I normally get my travel insurance for the US through either Boots, Endsleigh or STA Travel - whichever one is cheaper or offering the best deal at the time.

Travel insurance for visiting North America is usually a bit more expensive than travel insurance for the rest of the world because it includes higher medical cover.

Aye i get mine through my bank.. Mine is via Nationwide and its international coverage. Touch wood i've not yet needed to use it but I for sure like having it just in case.. Would hate to have something happen and not have coverage.

We've gotten travel insurance twice through comparison websites. (As it turned out, both times the cheapest plan with the best options was the same company.) Our plan covers annual travel (up to 31 days per trip) worldwide (including the US) with £10mil in medical insurance (my main priority). Our most recent policy (which started 3 weeks ago) cost about £40 for the two of us for the year. Not bad, compared to what any sort of medical issue might cost (especially in the US).

Do you have any pre-existing conditions?

I have found that most insurances, when reading the fine print, can be tricky for pre-existing conditions.  I use one that specifically caters for that, and have been very satisfied every time I have had to use them.

It never fails, when I take my kids to visit the states, someone gets sick! Chicken pix, ear infections, even once my son got MRSA! Lol. We have made many many travel insurance claims and have never ever had any problems.  Once we were due to go home from Florida on the Saturday and on the Thursday my son came down with chicken pox! We had to stay for an extra week, we had insurance with Direct Line and they covered everything! An extra week in a hotel, car rental, food, and return airfare! This last trip, my daughter had a perforated ear drum! Oy vey! We travel to the states for five weeks every summer.

2.) Because they accept pre-existing conditions

Its not cheap, but they've been very good!

Thank you everyone for your responses, very helpful!  I have a similar situation where myself and my 2 year old daughter are going back to the states next month to see my family for 4 months (after a very long wait for my ILR visa, it is needed) - and you know 2 year olds are very prone to sicknesses/ear infections/ etc at that age.  I've made the mistake of not having insurance while visiting with her in the states, and I won't do it again!

Is there anyone you would not recommend?  I have done a few searches on DirectLine and the options are endless.

Also, I bank with Barclays, and I believe my account covers travel insurance, anyone have any good experiences with them??

When we lived in the UK we bought annual insurance through Amex It wasn't expensive back then, covered more than the policies the likes of Thomas Cook wanted to sell for individual summer and winter holidays, and covered us in the UK as well as internationally.

We currently have an annual policy through HSBC (overseas) and have had to use it on more than one occasion, well worth the investment.

I know we're going to have to look carefully at the fine print when we return to the UK because some policies (including those with banks) exclude travelers who have not been resident in the UK for the last 6 or 12 months.
